That is not what the CSI rulebook says. Are you playing one of the CSI leagues? If so, pattern racking is against the rules.

Well it does say the rack other than the 8 ball and corner balls have to be random. That is not what the CSI rulebook says.
It also says this on page 103, which is not random:Well it does say the rack other than the 8 ball and corner balls have to be random.
This...Does it actually help your opponent?
Cory's pattern is definitely not alternating stripes and solids around the outside. It also says this on page 103, which is not random:
2-2 8-Ball RackFor the purposes of Rule 2-2-d, the common practice of alternating solids and stripes around the outside of the rack is permissible, provided the pattern is altered so there is a stripe in one rear corner and a solid in the other and that the position of any particular ball is not consistent between racks.
I don't know whether Deuel's pattern is allowable under this interpretation.
Here is Cory's pattern for reference. It also says this on page 103, which is not random:

We are talking about 8 ball here. If you can second ball break and make the corner ball then pattern racking will definitely give you a better spread to run out. 500+ will definitely have an advantage.This...
Maybe I'm the exception here, but absent gapping the rack in 9-ball, the people I tend to play aren't at the level that I worry a lot about how they rack the balls...
I tend to play league against maybe 525ish and above almost exclusively. Still mot worried. We are talking about 8 ball here. If you can second ball break and make the corner ball then pattern racking will definitely give you a better spread to run out. 500+ will definitely have an advantage.
I've played events like this too.I know at least one league where you're required to pattern rack.![]()
If you get on their ass right out of the box, that shit won't happen, If you truly know what you're looking for that is.How does everyone deal with opponents pattern racking against them? I've been trying to take the moral high ground but struggling to not spiral out on this topic.
Stay on the high ground. Why play if you're going to wallow in the mud?? Once a player gets that Rep, real or not, there's no going back.Lots of ways to cheat but I got tired of it and quit. If I couldn't beat someone without cheating, even if they were, I didn't play.
It was funny in the bars. Not uncommon for balls that had an open pocket to have the pocket blocked when I stepped away a moment during my turn. I just opened the path again with my left hand! They couldn't very well say they had blocked that very shot during my turn at the table!
By and large I let cheaters cheat. They couldn't beat me anyway and stooping to cheating was a sign of weakness. When I met them halfway my cheating went unnoticed. If you are going to cheat, be good at it. When the other player was cheating, if my left hand got near a ball it improved my shape even if I didn't make a ball.
Fun to do things with my left hand while they were standing there watching.
Hu
He doesn't have to alternate solids and stripes, CSI just says it is acceptable as long as the bottom corners are not the same. Corey's rack is a perfectly legal CSI rack.Cory's pattern is definitely not alternating stripes and solids around the outside.
Right. If the opponent loads the rack and the breaker tightens, you kill two birds with one stone.I think the complaint is not about looseness. I think it is about ball order.
Wait. What??I failed to mention that I play in an 8 ball league on a 7ft table. The opposing player is very talented and was able to set the rack in an order that produced a clear advantage for him
If I see that set up I might say something but doubt it. That isn't what I call pattern racking. That's technique with spice.
The dude still has to get out.Sadly, it during league play. On a barbox. I've spoken to the league operator and had to explain what it is. I am torn. Some of my teammates say to let it go, while others say to cheat back. Don't love either option.
Class. That's not cheating. I just about lost my $h17 back in the day when my opponent moved his coin an extra spot. When he refused to move it back and denied it and his friend backed him up, I ran 3 out(racks) to finish the set. Never gambled with him again. If I notice pattern racking I just mention without accusing to make sure to keep the racking random please.
