Name a pool hall you wish was still open today

Shakespeare's in Denver. None of the current places comes close.

Going from a 7 ft table to a 9ft table!

Well, there is 40% more table area on a big table. Doesn't take much of a stroke to play on a small table but you better be able to stroke it on a big table. Doesn't mean there are not any good platers on a barbox but just about anyone can be a hero on a small table. Definitely not the case on...

How many players in the US are too good (or would not be allowed) to play in the APA?

The problem being many shooters who play mainly just leagues are a whiny bunch and don't have an understanding of the immense pool of very talented players who do not shoot leagues. If you were playing on bar boxes, it's not too difficult to imagine a player ranked an 8 getting up 60-1 against...

Players not being paid at US Open

While it may be desired to obtain the prestigious name of the US Open, it seems the easy way to overcome this is for a business savvy individual with financial backing to just create a new tournament around the same time frame. Call it the US Championship or North America Open. Call it...

Who here has never ever E-V-E-R played league pool.....

The attempt of mockery towards league pool appears to be vague. The thought is it's mainly a shot at the APA but there are plenty of smaller leagues that offer competitive pool. There was a 14:1 league down in Denver I always wanted to play in that had some great local players competing in it. I...

    New APA Scoring system

While the merits of making play more competitive is a good change, it sounds like this will probably make match nights longer. The lower ranked players are now really going to cringe over crucial shots. High ranked players waiting for the anchor match to start around 10-11 pm will now have an...

"A guy that calls himself "Colorado Charlie, a former pro player"?

Older thread but saw this searching for other stuff. Just to confirm, this is the guy. A lot of blah, blah, blah and not a gracious loser. Definitely someone you want to show the money up front before you start playing him. It's insulting to the great players that are in Colorado for Charlie to...

Without The Cupcakes, There's Not That Much To Eat

I agree. Mike made some pretty good shots in that match for Dennis to claim it all resulted from the 9 knocked-in out of turn. Dennis was agitated about the game of 9-ball but he did give Alex a playful bear hug at the end. I want to like the guy but his style of griping about rolls and shots...

Without The Cupcakes, There's Not That Much To Eat

In turn, Dennis Hatch was the biggest complainer at the Turning Stone of the game of 9-ball (he had a 9 lucked in on him by Zuglan, perhaps, and a 9-ball break by Alex even though Alex beat him 9-0). He can be fun to watch due to his skill and bravado, but his demeanor left a lot to be desired...

What is the best thing you did to improve your game in 2011?

Played in a 10-ball ghost league. Handicap is determined by how many balls you are allowed to take off the table. 8 balls to run off is consistently easy for me and 9 balls isn't too far off.

Rodney Morris ,Turning Stone, Speed of Play ,Great Players, and a Shot Clock

For a race to 9, 2 hours were allotted for the matches. Not too many matches ran over that time limit, and if they did, the matches were close to being finished. So what may have been viewed on the live stream was not the norm for the tournament overall. Mike Zuglan, the TD, stated that any...

    jumping full stick

I use my break cue which tends to be on the light side of weight. Definitely a hard tip is needed; just put a White Diamond on my break cue and it works great for jumping. One thing that helps me is to choke up on the cue. Hold the full length cue almost like you were holding a jump cue. And...

Alex's performance in Turning Stone finals

I was there for the tournament, played in it, got knocked out early, and spent a lot of time watching Alex play. If anyone had seen Alex work Dennis Hatch 9-0, there wouldn't be any question about his ability or desire. I agree with the comments about him being exhausted. Alex was playing...

Shane missed a tough cut on the 9 with the cue by the side pocket and the 9 near the opposite rail halfway down. That would have put him hill-hill with Moore and the break. He never looked comfortable enough with the shot, pausing and standing up many times for a few minutes before shooting it...

Van Boening won his match 9-0. In the last game, he pulled off a 3-rail two-way shot on the 7 ball, and ended up making it to get out for the victory. Had he not made the 7, the ball speed appeared to be right for the defensive shot with the 9 in-between. 8 hanging in the side, done deal.
