There have been no US pro national championships -- US citizens only -- for pool for a long time. They will be held this year along side the Junior Championships in Quincy, IL. The annual instructors summit will also be there.

The winners will receive entry and travel support to the corresponding World Championships. In the recent past, there has been no travel support to the players representing the US in international competition. The fields are limited to 32 players.

Looks like a $250 entry fee. It will be interesting to see who turns up.
This is where player organization would help. If the top 20 US players act like self-interested independent contractors making individual choices about cost and expected personal benefit, it's dead in the water. If they instead say to one another, "hey, we're kind of a team. If we all reach down and make it work and expect everybody to show up and treat it as a big deal, that will be self fulfilling. It will then BE a big deal and grow legs. They need to pressure one another. I don't see much evidence of system-level thinkers, though. They would need to surprise me.

I hope this reaches to as many players as possible, specially the younger guys who have aspirations of making it to bigger stages.

Also, surprised to see the BCA actually do something that's not just a trade show. Who woke them up?

Does anyone know the money payouts for this tournament? I wrote in to the TD but he only mentioned the world championship entries and no details about the payouts. I'll need to follow up with him soon.

I got a response - no money added, payouts based on participation numbers.

pipe dream stuff here. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN in pool, not in the states. Dog eat dog world is just the way it is. Every man for himself.

BCA's involvement is going to be huge for professional pool in USA.

American pool players have American-only events to attend, thanks to the Billiards Congress of America (BCA). This could be the beginning of a North American federation-like organization.. Master's Chalk added $20,000.

I think it's great we have a WNT / WPA truce. It also means the two will operate separately. Are you a US player? Want to rise in the WNT structure, play WNT Ranking Events and Opens alongside all the international competition. Want an invite to play the WPA major championships, play in the BCA ranking events and championships. If some events are dual-sanctioned, even better. It's a bit of a return to structure without stepping on each others toes and some opportunities for synergy.

2025 BCA RANKING EVENTS
  • Turning Stone (9-Ball), NY, Jan. 2025
  • Derby City Classic (9-Ball), IN, Jan. 2025
  • Florida Open (9-Ball), FL, Aug. 2025
  • US Open (9-Ball), IN, Aug. 2025
  • International Open (9-Ball), FL, Nov. 2025
I think of this as baby steps for the BCA. Hopefully WPA gives them a handful of invites to use for the various world championships. I'd like to see multiple BCA ranking leaders invited, plus the USA Champion, plus Junior Champion, plus whatever is fair to Canada and Mexico. You want to see if this can at least get Shane, Sky, Tyler and one or more into those events like the World 10-ball Championship.

I think we're in an era where WPA and Matchroom don't have to bend over backwards for each other in scheduling. But I think it's more reasonable for the BCA to make some attempt at looking at the likely schedule of US players and try to accommodate a convenient schedule around WNT events. The sequence of Illinois (Jul) > Dubai (Jul) > Jeddah (Jul) isn't 100% unreasonable. It's just a shame something like "Florida Open (Aug) > US Open (Aug) > McDermott Classic (Aug) > BCA USA National Championships (Sep)" would have been way cooler. Especially as it would equally fit the juniors with "Florida Junior Open > SVB Junior Open > BCA Junior National Championships". But to me that's fine tuning. I don't expect fine tuning in year one.

Either way it's good for the BCA to act as the North American governing body for the WPA. And even if that means it doesn't do a lot for pro pool here, at least its an onramp to some WPA events. And it should focus a little more on that role (like it is). Another small step is they should not be showing international players in the BCA rankings. That's what the WPA rankings is for. Right now SVB is #1 and you have to email Shane Tyree to find out who #2 is. Nobody cares where Josh Filler fits in the BCA Rankings. There's no value to that information and no relevance to BCA.

A side note: The Heyball event has been cancelled because the tables hit a tariff wall.
At one point Joy was looking at $8000 per table in tariffs. Not sure what it is now. I think they had about 20 tables last year.

Anyone wanting to play better make reservations NOW!

Between Hannibal & Quincy?
There are rooms but???

Won't the tariffs apply to all major table manufacturers except Diamond? Including Brunswick?
Not positive here but i think there is just enough US content and assembly to get B'wick past the tariffs. Could be wrong here tho.
