107 Breaks & 6 Chances

After the Colts game today I went down to do my laundry. After getting the laundry started I went to the table and practiced some shots with those Pocket Reducers.

Then I decided to break some racks of 9-Ball. I broke 22 times and had one - 1 - decent chance to run out. Hosed it up, of course. Finally I told myself I should just put the cue down and quit playing tonight. I decided to break one more rack and made the 1B on the break. Then, at the last second, the 7B rolled over right between the 2B and the CB. Check out the diagram.

I guess I should consider myself lucky because I picked up the 2B and was going to throw it against the wall but it slipped out of my hand. I laid the break cue down, shut the lights off, and came upstairs before I did something I'd regret later.

It just never ends...............
Do you remember where the 2B was racked in the rack? If you try to make the 1B (I always do) you should think where balls trend and park the CB there. Parking the CB in the center is the old school wisdom but you would be better playing the CB to where the next lowest ball will trend.

If the 2B is on the wing you should be playing for wherever the 3B winds up, dependent on where it's racked of course.

If you're playing the ghost and take BIH after break, this rack is entirely runnable. You could practice jumps or a push out. If you're playing solo, instead of getting pissed just take BIH after break.

Im really not so sure this game is for you.

If the horrible spreads and horrible luck and horrible forces of pool evil continue to plague me after I get the new Diamond Professional table then I will probably agree.

In the meantime, I am about to head back down to the Gold Crown IV and break some more racks of 9B. I went down earlier today and broke about 15 racks. I had a couple of chances to runout but missed shots I should have made.

I've honestly never heard such whining about a GC, ever, and I've been around pool for 25 years now. I got so fed up with reading this nonsense that I went to my nearest pool hall which has GC's in order to break some balls.

Quick background, haven't played for 3 years now, other than short attempts at practise due to ongoing health concerns with my joints, shoulders, wrists and back mostly, and just for fun my right ankle is also acting up. I'm worse than I have been for a while ,because I temporarily had to pause my medication. My break has always been my greatest weakness in 9 ball even when I was healthy. But hey, could be worse and it's not too bad once I get moving.

So I limped and dragged my decrepit carcass down to the nearest pool hall with GC's after work. Now the pockets are probably bigger than yours, but the cloth is worn and the cushions are not in the best condition. Still, not buckets. I broke 10 times. On the tenth break my wrist felt like someone shoved broken glass into it, then stepped on it. The yelp startled the table two tables over... Suffice it to say, that was the last break. I made balls on 5 out of 10 breaks and had a shot at running out all but one of those times. I played 3 point rule, break box, 9 on the spot. The rules don't get harder than that. I had some sort of shot at running out on every break (had a ball fallen), one was questionable but I probably had a 50% chance of kicking the 1 ball in but lets not count that. I played a slight cut from slightly to the left of the center, within the box. I got quite good power, for me, still I felt in control. If I can do it, what is your excuse?

I met some people I know so it wasn't a total waste, but I'm paying for that last break still.

Do us a favor. Put the balls in numerical order, then with the same order you can see how they trend and we can maybe help. Without knowing the order they were in the rack there isn't much to say other than, oh bad roll. If the balls are in an order it would greatly help diagnose what is going on.

I think the only conclusion that can be made, with the information that has been provided, is that you’re not a good breaker.
Keep doing what you’ve been doing, for another 20 years, and then let us know how it turns out.

You guys think this shit's bad now just wait til he gets his new table. He still won't make a ball on that D'mond.

Making a ball has never really been the problem.

It's getting a good look at the lowest numbered ball and having a runnable spread. I just never seem to get a good look and have a decent spread that I can run. Maybe Efren in his prime might be able to get out once in a great while with my spreads.

The table is jinxed. The pool spirits must be against me.

You're missing a trick. On the first TAR match between Alex and Shane (race to 100, they might have had a couple shorter ones before then), Shane was KILLING Alex. Alex kept getting kisses or weird shit on the break, not leaving him a shot. While Shane was breaking, he'd stand behind him without him knowing, and watch what he was doing. Shane was jumping the CB so when the 2 corner balls went 4 rails around they would pass under the airborne CB, and not kiss.

Well, Alex learned that, and went on to have an Efren vs Earl COM comeback.

Brian of FXBILLIARDS on YouTube said:

Run three balls in order. If you can do that five times, add a ball.

If you can run four balls five times add a ball. Fail, go back to three balls.

Then five balls. Then six balls.

Succeed, add a ball. Fail, remove a ball.

He said if you can consistently get out five times with six balls, you can probably run nine balls fairly often.

Perhaps you should try this and let us know how it went. It might help identify your skill while also reducing your frustration level.

Disclaimer: in a really good session I might be in the four- or five-ball count range.

After the afternoon football games today I went downstairs and got the laundry started. So I then started to break some racks of 9B. I hadn't played in three days, sort of took a break from all the horrible rolls and spreads. The first five breaks - nothing - no chance. So I said to myself one more break and if there's no chance I am throwing in the towel today. This is what I got:

I just about threw the break cue. So I tell myself one more time. And I end up with this:

I threw the break cue down on the table, shut the light off, and came upstairs.

20+ years of the same old stuff. It just never ends.

p.s. before anybody says anything, yes, there were other balls on the table. I am just showing the position of the CB and 1B.
