Pool Ball Collecting.

On another note I received these snooker balls today and Just cleaned them up with not much effort. I was stunned that they were in unused condition, besides the box top. They were a bit dull and the cue ball had a bit of chalk on it but they cleaned up fabulously. I don't know much about the English balls so I was hoping that a couple of you folks from across the pond could give me some info if you would.
Thanks

We played with these last week and liked the way they played. They seemed to roll out better and took the pocket well. Not sure if that's the difference being 2-1/16" compared to the 2-1/8" Aramith Premier's we normally play with.

I’m not very well informed where the clay era is concerned but understand that the Brunswick Empire set shown below is something rather special.

These balls were acquired recently by a friend, who has given me permission to share a few images.

Could anyone enlighten me about clay balls? I only now clay as the material for plates and dishes. What kind of clay is used for billiard balls? And might a set like these still be playable, or do they get brittle over time? Last question obviously only out of curiosity, because nobody with a sane mind would actually play with a rare set like these 😊

Anyone from us here got lucky today? 😄

I asked on Saturday, if shipping to Austria was possible, and the seller said yes. But in the end, he did not change his listing and I was not able to bid on them. Well they were a bit out of my budget anyway. One can dream, at least … and I tried 🫣🥹😃

I think the auction dipped under the radar a bit, Mr M… always a risk in such a short seven-day listing. Many is the time I have frustratingly discovered desirable sets had been sold a little while after the event.

The auction stood at just $305 with three bidders until the last second where two folks each made one more final bid. Hearty congratulations to the lucky winner. It wasn’t me.

It even stood at 202,- until 1 day before. Hence I thought I might be lucky and get a bargain. But no, could not bid at all 🙃

Yes congratulations to the winner, they beat me by $10 which could have been a good thing for me not to spend that kind of money. Now I get a Summer vacation 😂
Some day maybe I'll find a set.

I did pick these up recently at a much more reasonable cost!

The blue ball is more green and I wondered if anyone else has a set of these to compare.

It is always so frustrating and disappointing to miss out on a desirable set… I have been there many times.

Take heart however, gentlemen, one thing I have learnt over the years is that another chance WILL surely roll your way one day.
Yes, I imagine when others see what they sold for they might be listing their sets, or digging up inherited sets.

I reckon the Cardballs might be the most costly pool sets ever cast.

Those irregular-shaped sticks would have required custom extrusions and multiple other expensive processes… all done by Aramith, who are not cheap at the best of times.

Do they do it like injection moulds? You know, like Lego and all the other plastic products...

Just thinking. Then it can't be that expensive anymore, if the moulds are already made.

I doubt they still have the moulds, Mr M.

They would be owned by the client… and Cardball International were dissolved many decades ago.

I'll buy a couple sets if you can get them to do it 😁
Chances are slim, I'd say. As no EU or US companies replied to me, I am currently in negotiations with a Chinese company to make a custom Poker Pool set for myself. Buying a nice one used, seems to be impossible to me, and I gave up after over 1 year of searching 🙃

Let me know what you find out, if they make one set making a few would be more feasible. 🤔
