In the first video the player is elevating the cue slightly because he was close to the object ball and did not want to foul a ball, at least as far as i can tell. The shot after is a passing thru shot. Hopefully i read the time stamp time correctly and we are talking about the same shot.

Wrong time frame …my mistake! Correct time frame 2:08 - 2:18. Why the reset of break shot in first video, but not in the second video!

In free game if your cue ball is in contact with the either of the other 2 balls you have the choice of playing the break, or shooting where you are as long as you do not foul the ball, ie shoot away from the ball that is contacted.

One note: in the free game (at competition level) there is no choice in case of a frozen ball. You go straighr to the break-off. In balkline, you can ELECT to play the break-off, but you can also solve some situations with an "in-and-out" pique. Or, out-and-in, rather.

If you are talking about the UMB rules of the free game, that is no longer true. If the cue ball ends touching/frozen to one of the object balls, all three balls go to the starting/break position -- on the spots. There is no choice at the free game. This is covered in
