Who is the Person that has influenced your Pool Life the most?

Howard Barrett, my first official pool instructor Nick Varner, a world champion who took time out of his schedule to help me with my graduate school research on how champions process the table and how they solve problems while playing. John Amos, who lit a fire under me by telling me that I...

    Making pockets tighter

How can you say the green spring picket tighteners don't work? They reduce my pockets to 3 1/2" wide and you have to hit the balls clean without touching the green foam or you'll have the ball rejected. I think they often work too well at reducing the pocket size. I've been considering cutting...

    Tip replacement pricing

Here's my take on it. You are paying for one of two things when you pay someone to put a tip on your cue. 1. You are paying them because you don't have the skill to do it yourself. If this is the case, pay them what they ask. 2. You have the skill to put on your own tips but you are too...

    4pt vs 6 pt

It's a matter of preference. I have some nice 8 and 10 pointers that I really like as well as some 4 pointers. I don't have a 6 pointer though.

What is your favorite SHAFT and WHY? (Predator, OB, Venom2, Gcore, other)

I choose 30 inch maple shafts with 12mm pressed Triangle tips and ivory ferrules. I've tried Moris, Kamuis, Talismans, Le Pro, Triumph, old Chandivert tips, and one Outsville tip ( so i need to try more of these to give a fair opinion). The pressed Triangles give me a good consistent hit...

Pool Table Pockets Should be 3.75 INCHES WIDE

3.75 is too big. They should be 2 1/2 inches wide. That way we could all watch the pros missing just like we do. Wouldn't that be exciting? I'd rather see people playing on 5 inch pockets (buckets) enjoying the game and running 6 packs, and pros running 9 packs and running 400 balls in 14.1...

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

Would this hold true for cars? Which would you rather have mass produced Camaro or a Bugatti? A Ford Mustang or a Ferrari?

Who makes the best custom cue

For what is is worth. In my 40+ years of playing pool, I have yet to see a pool cue make a single ball by itself. That said, I like and own cues from the following cue makers: Mike Bender Jim Buss Richard Black Greg Pierce Rick Howard Ray Schuler 1970-1989 Vikings Cues that I have played with...

    Expensive shooting cues

I have a fair number of cues. I have some that are designated league / tournament cues if i'm going into rooms I don't know. I've had someone walk off with one of my favorite cues while I was breaking with a break cue. In a span of 5 seconds he had grabbed it and walked over to another table...

    Do you like Sharp points

I don't want to purchase a pointed cue that doesn't have sharp points. No matter how ornate the decorations if the points are rounded it looks cheaply done to me. It's like the cuemaker couldn't bother to spend enough time to make the points sharp. I"m not saying the cnc'd pointed cues are...

    Wrapless Cue

I had to do just what you suggest. I took my full splice bumperless hoppe to Steve Lomax and got a nice leather wrap put on it. Much better for me than wrapless.

    Wrapless Cue

Wax it, put furniture polish on it? keep it clean and dry? Use the liquid stuff that makes the shaft slick. Biosilk works pretty good as do the generic brands.

    Triple Cross Cues

I have played a bit with the Triple Cross Cues And for the few cues I have tried they are in my opinion good cues. They don't all hit/feel the same to me. This however can be tweaked by using different materials, tapers and tips etc. your best bet is to give Tom a call and discuss what you...

    Opinions on the Joss JN-7

The cue will play like virtually any other Joss to the extent that the method of building the shaft is pretty standardized. Individual cues and shafts will give a different feel which can be customized by changing ferrule and tip choices. Some of the larger Billiard supplier warehouse stores...
