    Tony Watson,,How is he ??

I have a friend who is hooked on pain pills and other drugs. I tend to be too empathetic and was discussing this friend with someone one day wondering what I could do. His advice was, "When you see a tree falling, there isn't anything you can do." You might want to rush over and catch it, but...

    Revolutionary New Aiming System !

Thanks for the discussions here. My own method of aiming is not what I'd call a system, but you may disagree. I visualize the best path for the OB depending on the angle involved. I then locate the contact point that will send the OB down this path. Then I visualize which edge of the CB will...

    Rules Questions

Who is right? Recently, two players were playing 9-ball, cue ball fouls only. If an OB was disturbed accidentally, the opponent had the right to either leave it where it was, or else put it back where he thought it was originally. What happened was this: Player A shot the 2-ball, which...

    Hustling

I couldn't agree more. Hustling a hustler is A-OK in my book. At the "hustler level" it's a matter of who can outwit who. Both are going into it with their eyes wide open. The money is wagered on who is the smartest game-maker, not on who plays the best. There are no dummies here, only some...

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

My personal observation is that the harder I hit the CB, the more squirt I get. Sometimes, if I need to hit a ball extremely hard using english, I will have to aim more than a ball's width to one side or the other (even using BHE) in order to compensate for the extreme squirt. How do I know...

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

Let me put it this way. I line up as if I were making a centerball shot. Then I shift my back hand to apply english. What happens next, I'm not sure. I attempt to strike the CB at the point where I adjusted for english, but at the same time I keep my eye on the contact point of the OB and...

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

Yes. The way you just described it is the way I do it (absent the swooping business others here are talking about). I learned it from a guy who said Mosconi used it.

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

Oh! You mean zwoop! Now I get it!

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

Squirt? My understanding of squirt is the deviation in the CB's trajectory in the opposite direction of any english applied (right english = left squirt) due to deflection. Collision induced throw is not the same animal. At least, that's what I thought.

    Shadiest Pool Hall

If I might add something here--Cons are looking for it, however, due to the nature of their occupation, they have a liberal amount of larceny themselves--that selfsame trait they wish to exploit in their marks. Anyone with larceny in their hearts can be conned.

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

Where did/does Efren teach backhand english? Or, if he passed it on in person, what did he say about how to apply BHE? I'm really interested.

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

You say, "Stroke straight through." Yes, but I find it imperative to keep my eye on the contact point of the OB while I'm delivering my final stroke. I'm not sure the cue actually strokes straight through or instead pulls a little back in the direction of the OB since my stance is originally...

    What if the IPT fails????????

Not the IPT! I'm just stating what I see (hope for) in the future of pool.

    All 150 Players to Orlando

I heard that was because he would be playing in the Asian games and therefore couldn't be in Orlando at the same time. Are you implying that he wanted to play in Orlando, but simply neglected to get his application in in time?

    Aiming Sytems re-take!

Here's my aiming technique. First, I see the ball-wide path that the OB would have to travel to hit the pocket where I want. I see the edge of the OB that would have to be hit to drive the OB down this path, but I see it as a plane the same size as the cue ball (i.e., I see it as a 2-D...

    What if the IPT fails????????

On a more serious note, the IPT can't fail...to help pool succeed. Whatever happens to the IPT, it will still have pushed pool further towards its inevitable recognition as a legitimate and respectable sport in America, and I call that success. Things to look forward to--> tournament results...

    Does Backhand English Reduce Deflection?

Is what I am doing what you call BHE? I think you are talking about something else, although we both start at the same place. When I apply english, I do it by first aiming through the center of the CB so as to hit the exact point on the OB with the leading edge of the CB. Then, I shift the back...

    Shadiest Pool Hall

Whitewolf has it right--Roanoke Red's last name was Terry. I remember seeing his driver's license back in 1963, but now I'll be up all night trying to remember his first name!!

    Shadiest Pool Hall

Thanks for those memories. I didn't frequent 7/11, but I know you are right...it was one of the premiere rooms in the country, and many a fine player matched up there. One of the shadiest rooms I remember was Chief's place at 8th and H Streets NE, Wash, DC. I remember seeing Strawberry play...
