    Whiteside 6wing slot cutter

I've always centered the middle of the carbide to the C/L of the lathe with good results. Since you have six cutters moving against the wood, I usually use a fairly fast feed rate on the carriage as opposed to a two cutter roughing pass. Alan

    Ivory Butt Cap question

I have done it using an endmill in a dremel and turning the solid endcap in the lathe. With my limited reach endmill I had to bore from both ends to get the required depth, but it came out very well. Alan

    Looking for advice.

I find that the feed rate needs to be higher that what you are running for less chatter. Too slow and I don't get as smooth a cut. Whether it is a tension and release of the carriage, something to do with chip loading or some type of harmonic set up between the router bit and shaft, I don't...

    Finishing Methods...

KJ, I have taped the wrap groove off and dipped both ways as well as cut in the wrap groove after the entire butt was finished. Honestly, I don't have a preference but most of my cues are wrapless anyways. Alan

    types of 3/8x10 pins

I like to fill up any holes in a cue with anything other than glue or air. Although it looks like a better design by my previous statement, I can not say the modified pin give any better structural integrity. Looks can be deceiving. My 2 cents, Alan

    Clear coat ideas

If your not set up for it, stay away from automotive clear coats. They are probably the best for a hard, shiny and durable finish. They will also kill you without the proper protection. Just my thoughts, Alan
