How to deal effectively with the Knocker

When I was in the pool room business I really did know how everybody played and could almost always tell you who would win. As a result I never got involved, not even betting on the side. The worst is when a guy thinks he knows people speeds and doesn't. They will scare a guy away from a game...

    sheldon lathe question.

I think you are right about making it. I tracked down the guy I spoke to before and remembered why I did not get it back then. They wanted $650.00 for it. Years ago I made one for an old lathe I had from delrin. I just did it because it was easy but it lasted for years.

    sheldon lathe question.

I have a 13 inch Sheldon lathe. I have had it for about 35 years. For the last year or so the cross feed nut has been going and it finally has stripped out. I know there is a place that I can get a replacement, I spoke to them a few years ago. I can't find their number now. There used to be a...

One of the fastest matches ever...Earl vs Drago

Those factors probably accounted for it. Break and runs by Earl will speed things up, he doesn't stand around looking at things much. I did see a very fast one pocket match once. It was in a tournament in Ohio at Joe Burns place. Mike Carella was playing Freddy the Beard a race to 4 one pocket...

Pool, a Game of Skill, Legal to Gamble in TN

Sounds clever but you never want to push anything in their face. You will find the next week you have an air conditioner dripping on the sidewalk and get written up. Fire exits need to be changed, electrical inspections, cars ticked because they are not parked properly. You don't make enemies...

Pool, a Game of Skill, Legal to Gamble in TN

The problem occurs with the billiard room itself. Two people gambling and the room charging them to do so in the form of table time will be charged with profiting from a gambling enterprize. It is a stupid thing to even get involved even if you think you are right. You have a business making a...

One of the fastest matches ever...Earl vs Drago

Like I said, I didn't watch it. Were there combos or games won on the break that made it go so quick.?

    Pool Hustler Help wanted

Maybe today, not 40 or 45 years ago. I used to wire money home to my mother because it was piling up. You didn't go on the road to gamble, if you wanted to do that you can just stay home and play. When you traveled for a change no one knows how you play unlike at home. If you played good and...

Bemoaning the rise of the bar box

You are right, it is especially true in local tournaments. If you excised the players who have no chance to win and you would not be left with enough players to hold the tournament.

I wonder if they play pool in Cuba?

I would say it would be a big market for good quality bar tables.

    Hunter Lombardo

He I would say is around that age. I met him over 20 years ago, Danny DiLiberto introduced me to him. He was just a kid and Danny said to me, "Come over here and meet a guy with the greatest name for a pool player you ever heard". I thought he made it up.

Bemoaning the rise of the bar box

The problem with your thinking is it's narrow scope. 90% maybe more of the people who play and support the game don't care one bit if they win or lose, it is just a pass time. They however make it possable for you to have the game you love and want to dedicate yourself to. They are the engine...

Bemoaning the rise of the bar box

Thats true and not true. Sometimes demand can be created. If a town has no pool room it does not necessarily mean there is no demand. There may be but you don't know it. If you told me 30 years ago there was a demand for $4.00 and $5.00 cups of coffee and people would stand in line I would have...

I would be curious exactly where that measurement is actually taken in the pocket. They are also not as rounded as we are used to seeing on American 5 x 10's. They will accept many shots. I don't know how relevant this is but I found it on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr9eHLxvTtY...

Just for clarification, could you restate your comment in English. It doesn't make any sense.

Bemoaning the rise of the bar box

In terms of table size yes, but the snooker tables they play tournaments on in Europe the pockets are quite large. I was at the Crucible and the pockets were about like a tight pool table. I was very surprised, you could fire balls down the rail and they would go in.

Bemoaning the rise of the bar box

They are also products that contribute to the overall pool economy. One of the inherent problems of pool has always been it is not product driven such as golf or fishing. There are not a lot of people making any money in the pool biz that can even be sponsors. I would not be surprised that 90%...
