    Recomend me a good micrometer

I completely agree. That is true. But, I still use a dial caliper. I am far less prone to miss-read them than a venier caliper, and I can read them much quicker. I, for one, don't understand why a milling machine DRO is always 5 decimal places! I always find myself trying to tweak out that...

Seriously considering moving to Waco, TX

Wow! I live here and never knew any of that! Seriously. Texas is a great state. I'm in Dallas and we have a pretty strong pool scene here. Don't get me wrong, we would love to have more and better places to play, but there's plenty of pool around. Go back and look at the entrants to the BCA...

    Recomend me a good micrometer

I too have moved away from the digital caliper. I do still have several of them around, but mostly for backup or for converting MM to Inches. My favorite every day caliper is this one: http://www.shars.com/products/view/8016/6quot_Dial_Caliper_001quot_Premium_Series Of course, I do like the...

    Tired of Masking

Yes, I've used something very similar to that in the past. For shafts, which are spinning on a pointed center, we angle to gun slightly so that we don't spray on the face of the joint. For the buts, our booth spinner for the pin side is small diameter piece of delrin with a whole in it for the...

    Ivory............

I really don't have a dog in this fight either. We don't use ivory in anything we make, and I've personally only used it a very few times, quite long ago. And, of course, it was all pre-ban ivory. I do find this topic very interesting though, and of course, I want elephants to live peacefully...

Ferrules. Buying rod vs. pre cut

Murray So, at that level of machine, are you still working with rotary encoders, or is it already upgraded to linear encoders? What kind of tolerances? can you hold .0001" very reliably? That thing must weigh 10,000 lbs! Royce

    14" Grizzly Band Saw

That's a decent saw, but I would definitely upgrade it with Carter guides. http://www.carterproducts.com/band-saw-products/band-saw-conversion-kits/grizzly-14 I have these on both my saws. One is a 14" import saw just like the Grizzly you're looking at but the other is an 18" 3 phase Laguna...

    pin differance

I've seen something very similar to what you're describing. Quite often, it's very close to fitting, but it's just tight enough that it wants to bind up. I've seen it really start to squeak if you push it. Usually, a little lubricant or wax will fix it right up. I've often carried a Chapstick...

    Is SIT a Myth?

That experiment doesn't really prove that the ball can't be thrown into the pocket by spin. The only think it does is make sure the contact point between the cue ball and the object ball cannot be changed. Now, make the same setup, with all three balls. Then remove the 2 ball, not the cue ball...

    drill size

I've spent years drilling on manual lathes. In just the last few years, I've picked up a few commercial CNC lathes. They are extremely powerful and accurate. The alignment of the tools to the spindle is better than any machine I've ever worked on. But still, if I use a standard high speed...

PLEASE help with a poor sport (wife)

Listen to Sixpack and PT109. Both are absolutely right. It's got to be more about having fun with you than a competition. And, if you ever do compete you should both be on the same team. Royce

    new style rack?

If all your equipment is good, then I'd recommend drawing a line around the rack to use for alignment. This is commonly done in straight pool so it's easy to tell if a ball in in the rack or not during play. It will require the same rack to be used each time, so choose your favorite, locate it...
