    do people?

I've heard that statistically, stripes are a little better over the long haul because of visual cues for judging contact point. From now on though, I'm going with Jude's method: whatever group pisses me off less - I LOVE it.

    Being outclassed by another shooter

In rock climbing (since you have a belayer on a rope to catch you) the conventional wisdom is if you don't actually fall, you're not pushing hard enough. The point being not to simply push your level of competence but to actually exceed it to get better. We all get run over once in a while...

    What was your first cue?

Paid $45.00 for a Schmelke in 1980-81 timeframe. Golf leather wrap and a 5lb ;) brass to brass joint. Good club for a beginning banger.

heard a great line last nite

The "best" thing isn't sliced bread anyway, its beer in a can (or just beer for that matter...) :D

heard a great line last nite

I cracked a guy up once after finishing a match where I and my opponent both shot terribly. He asked who won and I replied "I lost before he did." I though it was a pretty straight line but the other guy filled his sinuses with beer.

    Whenever I "Blank", I play "poorly/well".

I can't believe no one else took this so I'll jump in: "Whenever I play pool I play badly..." :p

Power Breaking Instructional Video - By Request.

Thanks Colin. My bridge distance is only about 8" already so shortening it more is probably out. I still need clearance for a backswing. Standing closer to get a more upright stance can certainly still work though.

Power Breaking Instructional Video - By Request.

Great video Colin. Very similar to what Bert Kinister showed in his breaking lesson, but you give more detail than I remember from the other one. One question, you mention moving your hand forward and shortening your bridge, but I'm assuming you're comparing to how you used to break? How does...

Pool personalities: Which one are you?

LOL. Good stuff. I've never broken it down that far. I'm probably a little of lot of those guys. In my neck of the woods I could make a couple of blanket observations that apply to almost everybody regardless of whatever else they have going on: A. Everybody "used to be pretty good" or...

Need opinions on a new Pool term?

The way we used the term it meant either a break&run or the racker running first time up. Balls made by the breaker in their failed run didn't matter. Obviously clean-up runs after the breaker ran 6 or 7 balls are a lot easier, but the bottom line is still that a player with 6 consecutive...

8 Ball In and Out Funny

I've seen that dozens of times on bar boxes. The problem is the plastic cup and ball return combo that basically suspended under the slate. If a ball rolls in at speed and hits the bottom of the cup just right it trampolines back up. The shooter didn't do anything wrong, just got bit by a...

Need opinions on a new Pool term?

The term I've heard for non-breaker getting out is cleanup run. In a league system I set up, we tracked "runouts" meaning the player got out the first time they came to the table regardless of whether they broke. A term like "6 run pack" might be less ambiguous than "6 win pack". For someone...

    elk master tips

I have a bunch of 25 year old Elk Masters sitting around I've never found much of a use for. In my experience, they have even more variability than LePros. None of the pressing methods mentioned have any method of measuring the compression used. That coupled with the initial variability leads...

    Leather Drops reject balls

You're describing exactly what I have going. If you go to the Lexol website, it looks like they sell it for automotive use also, so it should be available anywhere. Despite your caution, I am going to try it leaving the pockets on. I have an idea about how to construct a "pocket stretcher"...

    Leather Drops reject balls

My table does something I've never seen on a drop pocket table. I have RC Designs leather drops, but the cut seems to be a little strange. On two of the corners, if I hit the ball in just right, it can hit the leather flap in the back and bounce back out onto the slate. I've tried...

Bar Box pool; Is it "real" pool?

Everyone's talking 9-ball. I would agree that 9 on a bar box is easier than 9 on a 9 footer. Different games take a different blend of skill as well. Becasue of the added crowding, I would suggest that there's at least less difference with 8-ball on either size. What about straight pool...

    "Dirty Pool"

In my experience, you will be accused of playing "dirty pool" if you try any kind of obvious safety when stuck playing so called "Straight 8". These people do not understand the real game and expect you to make a "white man's try" at every shot. (I actually played in a league many years ago...

    Speed up slow cloth

Anyone have any suggestions on speeding up slow cloth? I have a backed cloth that has a little nap (no pilling). At best it was probably medium-fast. I'm too cheap to replace it right now and it's in decent shape other than the speed. I've experimented with spray starch and ironing it and...

    Predator Warp Problems?

My only direct experience is with my many years old 1st Edition Predator. Love the stick, no problems at all. The only thing warped is the person holding it..... :D
