I have used John for two different tables and yes, very happy!

Drexeline Billiards in Philly Suburbs just installed new Simonis. Go get some!

Look for a guy named Mitch. Fun to play and easy money!

Pool scene- VA, MD, D.C. area?

I think Hi-Cue (previously on Columbia Pike) moved to somewhere in Annandale as well. Haven't been there yet. I rarely go outside the Beltway so when I do get out to play pool, I mostly go to Bedrock. Their Sunday tournament is good, but it's only once a month.

    Mcdermott 3-piece travel cue

I've got the Sheldon as well (case by Brian Bonner). You do have to check it, but it fits in pretty much all suitcases so it's still easier to travel with than a regular cue. I like having a travel cue I'm used to and having the same tip brand as my regular cue.

How to make these bank shots

I thought 1 would scratch, glad everyone agreed. Move the balls a bit and you can make it with a soft cross-over. I shoot 2 with high-right. Shoot 3 with center left, only about 1 tip. Somehow, banks turn more without too much side spin. Only #2 is an easy bank. Also, sometimes this is...

    League preferences input please

I like APA better than the TAP league I tried, but they were similar overall. I've never been in an area where BCA is an option, so hard to say. But if a league really wants to grow, it should join the current decade and build a good iOS/Android app for scorekeeping.

    Stolen league money

I would expect franchises of actual corporations (APA, probably TAP, etc.) to be required to maintain insurance policies as part of their franchise agreement. If it's just a random local league, then you may be out of luck. I'm not even sure a homeowners policy that covers personal losses...

Current posters who were around for RSB or alt.sport pool please sign in

Found a 2000 post of mine, but I know I was there beforehand because that post mentions the Weitable and I was definitely active when Wei first posted his now-defunct cuetable. I may have changed user names when I had to switch to dejanews to access RSB. Ya'll are old!

    tips on dealing with haters?

On the off chance this is not a troll post, here's a solution that I'm surprised no one has proposed yet: play doubles with a partner well below your skill level. You can still try hard but you'll hog the table less.

    Mezz extension

I have it and I love it. Expensive, but if you play for even modest stakes it should eventually pay for itself.

    Simonis X-1 Cleaner

The X-1 is definitely not necessary. But I use a similar routine as yours. The vacuum gets the dust and the X-1 removes the chalk and other marks on the table, making it look closer to new. I think the X-1 is just cosmetic, though.

Seeing FARGORATE stuff makes me wonder

Karen Corr plays in lots of mixed gender tournaments, so she's a good example. Let's say she averages finishing in 7th place out of 64. Along the way, she beats a lot of men 7-5. Men who she beats 7-5 have an average Fargo rating of 715. Therefore, a woman who Karen usually beats 7-5 should have...

    Flying With Cue Cases?

I bought a JB Rugged just for flying (doesn't help with theft, but good vs. baggage handlers). I liked it so much that I kept using it all the time--strong and secure, relatively light, well placed handles, comfortable strap, nice pockets. The non-leather ones are quite reasonably priced IMO...

My idea for eliminating break/rack issues...

That would work. So might a bowling style ball setter (robot Sardo). But a really simple option is for one player to rack with the other watching and a 30 second time limit. Then they flip a coin to see who breaks the rack.

    2nd ball break

Nice article. Food for thought. You find that the breaker wins 60% of the time and deem that the advantage for the breaker, as I read it. One consideration is that in any given match, the better player will also be breaking more often, so some of that 60% may be attributable to overall skill...

A second vote for Classic Billiards, but the contact I've always known is John Burns (there may also be a Ken). http://classicbilliardservice.com/.

    Mezz cues are fantastic

I bought one with an Alpha hybrid shaft (lower but not low deflection) and I've really loved it. I might have a few custom cues for sale soon (but they all hit a ton!).

    Wash vicinity poolroom

Bedrock is definitely the place to go if you're in the city. QBall 1 is good, but not close enough to take a cab. Revolution (AKA Fast Eddie's) in Springfield is pretty good too, but also a hike from the city.

    Question for APA players

You nailed it there! The problem with waiting for the player to ask for a timeout is that the player doesn't know that they need a timeout: they're about to make a mistake and don't realize it! I'll draw a distinction that might be helpful: (1) timeouts on how to make a shot vs. (2)...

SVB cheating? Shaw/SVB Derby 9 Ball

That might work, so long as there's a 30 second or less rack clock.
