A different Archer now, than in the past...

Hollywood, I tend to agree that your avatar crosses the line. Many children will occasionally notice what their parents are doing on the web, and most parents will agree that is totally inappropriate. Isn't there a moderator to deal with this? Danny

Pool Article In The NY Times

JIm, They outlawed smoking here in Cal and I lost about 10% of my biness right away and lobbied to try and get smoking allowed back in. Didn't work of course and it took a few years for the customers to come back in who were smokers. I don't really believe it's a smoking thing, it's a downward...

    Most Interesting Poolhall

I used to play in a room in Douglas, Arizona called the B and P Palace on Main Street. I played there in 1965 or so, and snuck in the back door because you had to be 18 to get in. It was built in about 1912 or so, and had spitoons on the floor, a shuffleboard table in the corner and cigar...

    I'm buying a table soon....NEED ADVICE

The Diamond Pro is about 6 grand new, I believe, but you might be able to buy one slightly used for around 4 grand. I don't think there is much a difference between the one piece or three piece slate. I have a friend who bought one of the IPT tables from the Reno tournament and he loves it. His...

The oldest guy to run a hundred balls?

My house pro Wayne Norcross is a young 71 and has a few hundreds in his 70s. Just thought I'd mention Wayne. He is still an ambassador of the game of 14.1.

Pool Article In The NY Times

I've been in the pool retail business for almost 30 years. It has gone up and down, peaking with the "Color of Money" in 1986-1990. I was able to quit my job as a billiard supply manager and make a living selling pool cues wholesale to all the new rooms that opened in that time. Everyone was...

Difference in Chalk brands, and connoisseurs of chalk

Most of the pros like master blue, and only the blue color for some reason. The National and Silver Cup are both soft, in my opinion. Triangle is made by the same company that makes Master and is a little more gritty than Master blue. I like either one. I own a pool room and was given a couple...

    Bernardo "King Kong" Chavez

I first saw King Kong play at Willies in Midway City in about 1978 or so. He was definitely a force to be reckonned with. Keith gave him the six on a bar table, but then Keith was spotting everyone at that time. Eighteen racks of 8 ball on a bar table? If it really did happen it would be...

    Svb Vs Efren

I was speaking with Willie Munson from Milwuakee about 15 years ago at Hard Times and Willie said, "A mistake I've stopped making is betting against Efren Reyes. The guy just doesn't make bad games, and plays too good, no matter what he's giving up." I would have to seriously consider taking...

Alison Fisher V.S. Shane Van Boening

Allison played on a tour with Grady Mathews about five years ago, several different cities in short races nine ball and Grady won most of the sets, however confirming what a great player she is. I would still be surprised if she got to 50 playing against Shane. He's really on a roll right now...

Race to 100 in 9 ball - players in Deadstroke - who would be the best?

Strickland had by far the best break when he was playing well. It's such a huge factor in nine-ball I think Earl would have bested them all. Alternating break? a different story, maybe. Danny K

The oldest guy to run a hundred balls?

How about Jimmy Caras or Irving Crane? Crane died a few years ago at 87, I think and Caras at about 90. Anyone with any info on either one?

Passing of a Colorado player Steve Knight

My one and only road trip with Joe Salazar ended in a non-eventful money match with Steve at a bar in Phoenix in about 1991. Steve beat Joe out of about 400, and was very friendly and considerate in doing so. Steve always seemed like a classy guy. Danny K

    stricklands kicking adjustment

Earl tends to use a little high english on most of his kicks, I think to make the shot consistent. With high english the cue ball naturally goes long off the cushion, therefore giving him some consistency on all his kick shots.

Moral dilemma. What would you do.

I tried to e-mail this to the poster but no contact information. The right thing to do? Contact Pat Fleming who owns Accustats and let him know what's happening . Pat has worked real hard developing his business, attending events and taping, when I know he may have preferred playing. You...

    Corner Pockets

No, it closed sometime in the early 90s, I believe. A place opened nearby called "Shooters" and has since closed. Seemed like a nice place, though. Danny

    Corner Pockets

One opened in Montclair, CA. I met Frank one afternoon there, and was asking him about equipment. He was very accomodating and friendly. The Corner pocket opened there in the mid 80s, I think. Frank was a hell of a straight pool player. Danny

    Why isn't Rotation more popular?

Rotation has a couple of problems; one, the harder shots to make score the least amount of points; two, the balls are so numerous and jammed in the beginning of the rack it's too difficult to maneuver and run the table. I recently created a game where rotation is played, but cue ball in hand...
