Which Kamui Black tip should I try first?

the kamui hardness ratings are totally off IMO. their soft is like most people's medium, i'd start there and adjust up or down as needed. I do like hard tips, but their medium is too hard for me, wish there was something in between. their super softs aren't really that soft, i'd say it feels...

Predator LD Carom Shaft Finally Available

I've got one of the new predator carom cues and I have to say it really is a huge difference. some of the other aspects of a cue may be subjective and personal taste, but if you are just looking at the deflection rate, the predator blows all the other shafts away. i've tried other carom LD...

    ob classic pro/Z2 deflection

yes, the ob-2 has a wood ferrule that is lighter than the plastic ferrule on the classic pro. very small changes to the weight on the very tip end can have a noticeable effect on deflection. both are very low deflection though.

    ob classic pro/Z2 deflection

one thing i forgot is that the tapers are pretty different. both z2 and classic pro are the same tip diameter, but the z2 feels thinner as the taper doesn't grow that quickly. the ob shaft isn't as thin in the stroking area. I prefer the ob taper as it makes a small tipped shaft not feel like a...

    ob classic pro/Z2 deflection

the z2 has lower deflection than the classic pro. but the classic pro is no slouch, it deflects similar to the 314-2, still very low. the only shaft that i've found comparable to the z2 in terms of deflection is the ob-2.

    Kamuii tip tool

i bought one of the tiger ones...it's ok, but not as good as the gator grip. the texture on the tiger just doesn't grab and rough up the leather as well.

    Edge Hybrid vs. 314-2

Yeah, the web site says vibration dampening core, which is kind of vague. I got my shaft from the Jacoby's in person and they told me that it was balsa. I didn't ask how deep the core is, I would assume it is around 4-6". They also showed me how they drilled lots of tiny holes in the top of the...

ah, so it is primarily to change the hardness....interesting, thanks Tom! I've ordered a few to try out.

    Edge Hybrid vs. 314-2

i agree with what some of the previous posters said. The edge hybrid is lower deflection, but not as low as the predator. It's kind of halfway in between a regular shaft and a predator. It does have a more "solid" hit than the predator as it has no hollow areas. This is comparing a 12.75mm...

what does the chemical treatment do to the tip?

    Schon tip replacement

seybert's used to sell the schon tips, but i can't find them on their site anymore. Not sure if schon sells them directly. I think the closest replacement would be the WB brand water buffalo tips. Sumo's like the previous poster mentioned are close too, but they're not made anymore. Also be...

    Jacoby LD shafts

yeah, the site only mentions it is a "vibration dampening" core. when I bought mine in person from the Jacoby's, they told me the core was balsa.

    Jacoby LD shafts

yes, they are cored out at the tip, I believe it is balsa.

    Predator and Poison cue comparison?

the venom shaft has good low deflection performance for the price, but the 314-2 has lower deflection. they share similar designs in many respects....same ferrule design and both are bored out at the tip end. the poison shaft is then cored with balsa wood, while the predator is left hollow...

Lucasi Zero Flex Hybrid and Custom?

the hybrid is a laminated shaft and the custom is a one piece maple, that is the main difference. the front end ferrule/tenon design is the same, and the deflection should be the same between the two. lucasi's design does lower deflection some, but it's not near the level of a predator, ob, etc...

    places to play in Taiwan

yeah i'll check out simon's place when i make a trip to taipei....was hoping to find a decent place nearby in taichung which is where i'm staying for most of my trip.

    places to play in Taiwan

well i went to taichung one that is at Zūnxián St, Bei District, Taichung City, Taiwan. I wouldn't really recommend this place. If you go before 10pm, the place is mainly full of high school kids. After 10pm, you have to be over 18 and the place clears out a lot. The tables are in pretty horrid...

    Players HXT = Lucasi Hybrid?

the ferrule/tenon construction on the hxt and hybrids are the same, so in terms of deflection they should be equal. the hybrid is laminated and the hxt is not, that's the main difference.

    Tweeten Virgin Tips

these tips are still made afaik, but I haven't really been using them. the main problem is that they seem to be unable to make a 14mm size, the ones you get now are 12.5mm, which only fits on skinny shafts that I don't use.
