BRUNSWICK-BALKE COLLENDER made in 1896? Good deal?

i don't know man ...that sucker is rough ... and if the internals (rubber and slate ) are in the same condition as the outside i would say this thing would need some work .... clearly it is missing the rail skirts, veneers etc ...which also makes it hard to identify ....

BRUNSWICK-BALKE COLLENDER made in 1896? Good deal?

I would also add that the brunswicks don't have a made in date ...they say 1896 on them ....because that is when they started makin em....actually they started in 1845 ....but that's a different story my 1916 Kling says the same thing ..... go to the website and try to match up the table ...

    gouges in slate?

I didn't have to sand the bondo hardly at all ....if you use a razor scraper just as it is about to be dry you can get it almost perfect and usually need little to no sanding ....

    gouges in slate?

use bondo to fill the gouge ...scratches are probably okay... put the bondo in the gouge ...when it is almost fully dry then use a razor scraper to scrape off the excess .. i don't know about using the slate in a inverted position...i would defer

    Tighter pockets

You are right ... i guess it depends how close to exact he wants to get...if he's happy with the pocket consistency as it stands now; then the facings will work .... if not then he has to open the can of worms as you suggest ....

bingo ! .... the problem is 860, 860 HR and 760 all stretch a different amount ....RKC has noticed a decline in the amount of stretch you can get out of the new simonis 860 formula .....it's buried in a thread somewhere super 77 spray will not work ..you need the scotch grip 10....a little...

    Tighter pockets

I think it also depends on how much you want to tighten the pockets up. Putting 1/4" 60 durometer neoprene facings will tighten up the pockets without subrail extensions ... I got mine on amazon and cut them to fit. I used a pneumatic mini belt sander from harbor freight to shave em down...

    760 isn't fast enough - yet...

to find out if you have it upside down you can also black light the cloth ...you should see simonis 760 light up .... if you don't see that then this is not simonis or it is upside down. a close up picture of the cloth will also help... imo, simonis is pretty much as slick as it will be right...

neatsfoot oil works pretty good and absorbs into the leather as to not leave residue on the balls ....but it sounds like they need to be replaced... what kind of table is this?

    Checking the Setup

I would just try to feel them out ...and it's hard to be tactful but you need to just probe them a bit .....i.e. get them talking about how they do the setup and what all is involved ...say you are just very interested in how it is done and the details should come as you talk to them .....I...
