I've been going over the video diamond has uploaded to you tube on glueing procedures for the smart table. Right after they line up the cloth before glueing the edges he runs the end of a knife down the long side to get a crease[right?]. He then takes a straight edge about 4" wide and marks the cloth. Well i think the crease shows where to roll the glue but I can't see what the line is for. ??? http://www.youtube.com/user/DiamondBilliards#p/a/u/1/5rr8JAT7VWo about 1:09

bingo ! ....

the problem is 860, 860 HR and 760 all stretch a different amount ....RKC has noticed a decline in the amount of stretch you can get out of the new simonis 860 formula .....it's buried in a thread somewhere

super 77 spray will not work ..you need the scotch grip 10....a little pricey....

the same stretch pattern also works with staples ....

I'm gonna be using Velocity pro. I figure about 3" of stretch? I got the grip 10 comin".

my issue is, and this is why i didn't use the glue, if you don't know how much the cloth will stretch ..then how do you know how far in to apply the glue on the long side?

i just envisioned an expensive mess ....and went to staples ....killed my wrists but came out very nice ....

anyway good luck ...

Well I would but its a bar table. And thanks I've had the same visions. Having never done one I'm hoping good preparation does the trick. All insights and warnings will be taken to heart! Don

After gluing down the start side go to the opposite side. Around mid-slate stretch the cloth and (you or a helper) make a mark at the edge. Let it loose and measure the distance from edge of cloth to your mark then use that measurement to make a line down the log side of the cloth. This will be the line you stretch to. Flip the cloth over on the line and you'll know where to apply the glue. Same scenario for any type of cloth.

Thanks Rick, the reverend sent me a PM with the same advice. Logic wins out.

Also, if this table has been covered before with spray glue, you'll need to make sure you strip all of the old residue off before you apply the new glue. Otherwise, the 3M-10 will stick to the old glue, not the slate, and will strip it right off onto the back of your cloth. That's a mess to deal with.

Although it's a little tough to find, 3M does make a good Adhesive Remover in a spray can that works pretty good to get all of the old spray glue off.

Thanks for the info. I've got a heat gun that I hope will work ok. I'm pretty sure I can get the slate cleaned up but I'm worried about the rails. The dvd I bought shows stripping old rails but recovering new ones. Guess I can staple the whole thing if they are to rough to glue. I'm gonna take some pictures to post if everything goes ok. If you don't here from me I've moved to Canada. lol
