It's Soap Box Time: Calling out the cheapskates!

Agreed! I always made sure to buy something while I was at the pool hall. When I was low on cash it might have just been one soda or one beer but I know table time alone doesn't keep pool halls open. And I'd always be sure to throw a couple $ in the tip jar at the end of the night. For all...

    help with a bank shot...

Great advice. I'll play around with these tips later today and see how it works out. The ball/rail friction thing makes sense. After posting this thread I did go back down and try shooting at different speeds and that had a significant effect on the angle! Thanks everyone!

    Playing the Ghost

I like this! I'll have to give this a try later today. Right vs left is a fun one too. Just because there are some shots that are easier to play left handed (and I find the bridge kind of awkward) I'll occasionally play right hand vs left hand. When I miss I'll switch hands. I usually do...

    help with a bank shot...

This morning I was trying to work on this bank shot (shown in the first layout below). http://pool.bz/P/?@1HBRV1PNqk1cBRV2cbAa1cbrdzc1kNqk1kDmR1kBYMzc@ But that's not what the ball is doing. For some reason it's coming off the rail at a MUCH smaller angle; almost straight off the rail and...

    Practicing is hard work soooooo....

If it helps at all...I've also heard that the horn from an albino unicorn may be used as a substitute...but only if it's harvested on the leap day of an odd numbered year.

    psych-outs/superstitions...?

Ha! I've seen several of those happen at the bars! No green? Also, when I play against my Dad we egg each other on a lot. He'll go for a super easy shot and I'll scoff and tell him to "man-up" and quit playing safe...there's a perfectly good three-rail combo shot if he wants to live a little...

    psych-outs/superstitions...?

I've been playing with a friend of mine about 4 or 5 times a week lately. We've gotten to know how we play pretty well and what kind of day the other is having as far as shooting. We've also figured out how to psych each other out on a shot. "oh look! a nice straight shot for you!" (<--my...

looking for a pool hall in Upstate NY...

Amsterdam is a bit far to go to on a regular basis, but I do make the trip to the Albany area on occasion. Next time I'm in the area I'll definitely let you know!

looking for a pool hall in Upstate NY...

I just moved back to upstate NY and am looking for a pool hall to make my second home. Anybody know any good places in the Fort Anne/Glens Falls/Lake George area? Or around Rutland, VT? I know there used to be a nice one in downtown Glens Falls but it closed down a few years ago. Haven't...

What Is The Most Over Rated Cue?

Personally, I'm loving all these car references. And hanging around car people most of my life I'm fairly used to this "my car is better than your car"/"ford vs. chevy vs dodge" argument. Nobody is ever going to win it. Unless of course all fords (cause i'm a chevy chick ) are set to...

What Is The Most Over Rated Cue?

As far as the "clicky" sound, check the weight bolt. My cue was make a click sound when i hit for a while. Had no idea what it was until one of the guys at the pool hall I go to came over and told me and fixed it for me.

    Best pool movies

I loved Poolhall Junkies. Some of the scenes in that movie were absolutely hilarious! It was definitely entertaining.

    trouble with long shots...

Dave: I tried this out today and it worked! I have to shift my head to the left so my right eye is more centered on the cue. I still have abit of fine-tuning to figure out exactly where the correct "center" is but by the end of my practice session there was a definite improvement. I was...

Why music players are banned in most tourneys?

I've always considered the risk of drunks and bad music to be part of the atmosphere. I've always found it more difficult to play in a "sterile" clean and quiet environment. Unless it's head-ache inducing shitty rap, the bad music almost helps. It forces me to focus more on the shots I'm...

    trouble with long shots...

Thanks Dave! Great video! I haven't had time to get to the pool hall lately but I'm excited to try this out and see if it works.

What is the most Under Rated Cue?

I'll admit I have very little experience using different cues, but I have a Stealth (with the Dooley handle) that was a gift a few years back. Only cue I've ever had. I love it. Maybe it's just that I'm used to it, but it's a very comfortable cue and plays well. I'm a fan of the Dooley.

Room Owners Post Photo's Of Your Pool Room

This place looks like it has amazing atmosphere. Very nice! My mom and I were talking about opening a pool hall (hypothetically) and this has a feel similar to what I was picturing.

    trouble with long shots...

Rick: I occasionally try that, just to see how I'm doing with my aim. Across the short axis of the table I can get the cue ball to come back to the tip of my cue about 80% of the time. On the long axis of the table maybe 20%. Next time I go play I'll have a friend watch and see if I'm off...

    Long shots

I'm always surprised at how quickly people reply to posts here. Thanks for all the advice. I'll try it out later this week and let you know if I figure out what it is.

    Long shots

I posted this questions originally under a different forum and was told I should re-post it here. I've been playing for a few years and have just recently made some improvements -- making sure my elbow is near 90 degrees, keeping my back hand wrist straight (i had a tendency to bend it). It...
