Conditions to participate in the upcoming U.S. Open

We don’t know the intent, and I wouldn’t take their social media comments on it at face value. The plain language of it looks like it targeted Mark Griffin’s US Opens (8 ball, 10 ball, straight pool, etc.). Emily Frazer says on social media it doesn’t apply to those, only 9-ball. But no one has...

How good were you when you first picked up a cue?

Me too, but I think it was Hustler II (Color of Money) for me.

Yeah that’s what I think too.

How good were you when you first picked up a cue?

Good posts DaveK and TinMan. I agree with most of what you both said, and maybe I should have framed it in more relative terms. I’m not saying new players can start out as a 700 Fargorating. But I do think we’ve all seen players who haven’t played much but can shoot pretty well, and other...

How good were you when you first picked up a cue?

My guess is that most decent players were pretty good shooters when they first picked up a cue. It’s pretty easy to see where you need to send the cue ball to pocket the ball you’re shooting, and if you have decent hand-eye coordination it’s not too hard to send the cue ball where you’re aiming...

    Aiming with english

That’s a good question. I use a pivot for english, so I guess my vision is centered on the cue ball rather than the shaft. I suppose I could move my head or my whole body when I pivot but I feel like that would be crazy. Which do you think is better?

Races to 4 for the pro's???

On another note, despite complants lots more top players have signed up for the second in this series in early September in Vegas: Shane, Filler, Ouschan, Orcollo, etc.

Races to 4 for the pro's???

The shootout has got to be more fair than a deciding rack, which is much more subject to the randomness of the break and the rack. But yeah I keep hearing people say “race to 4 is too short” when it’s two sets to 4, which is equivalent to a race to 7 or 8 (If you win both sets, you’ve gotten to...

Arizona Open (CSI Predator US Pro Billiard Series) 28-31 July, (10 Ball/9 ft table) Winner $13K

The next event in this series is early September during the BCA Nationals, and the following players who were not in the first one are signed up: SVB Filler Orcollo Pagulayan Feijin Ouschan Bergman and quite a few more. Dechaine is out, apparently withdrawn because I believe he was previously...

Conditions to participate in the upcoming U.S. Open

Right, logic is the same, but the companies are different (Predator is a sponsor of some of Matchroom’s events).

Conditions to participate in the upcoming U.S. Open

I think those are the exact events that Matchroom is targeting with this language. They want one US Open and no other events to dilute their US Open, and to them 9-ball = pool, hence US Open Pool Championship and World Pool Championship with no 9-ball in the titles. I also think Predator’s...

Conditions to participate in the upcoming U.S. Open

That makes sense, because those events are on CSI’s 2019 events page but not 2020 or 2021.

Conditions to participate in the upcoming U.S. Open

It may also be relevant that CSI, who owns a series of “US Open” events including 10-ball, 8-ball, one pocket, straight pool, and banks, also just started their new US Pro pool series that Matchroom may see as competing with their events.

Test Your POOL KNOWLEDGE … Take New Pool QUIZZES

I missed one on the terminology quiz - I put “inside edge” for half ball hit rather than “outside edge” because I’m an edgit.

Are professionals supposed to call fouls on themselves?

I believe golf rules explicitly state that you have to call fouls on yourself. I don’t think that’s the case in any pro pool rules. The rules usually say something about the non-shooter acting as the ref if there is no ref present, which is very different. A lot of pro pool players call fouls on...

Why do lower level players make instructional videos for you tube????

Yeah, but on a more positive note, maybe they’re just into it and want to make a video. People make videos about everything they do today, it’s free to post it, and they’re just having fun. Better pool than eating cinnamon or choking themselves into unconsciousness.

Arizona Open (CSI Predator US Pro Billiard Series) 28-31 July, (10 Ball/9 ft table) Winner $13K

Shootout to determine the tournament winner. Not sure if that’s better or worse than final game in hill-hill match.
