MATCHROOM AND CUETEC SIGN AGREEMENT, MARKING A BRILLIANT NEW ERA FOR NINEBALL

Hey! It’s Gen Z ruining everything now. Leave me and my avacado toast alone. Frippin’ Gen Z’ers

    Matchroom dumps WPA!

My understanding is that they are working with other tours and promoters to fold them into their initiative so it’s not like their rankings are just Matchroom tournaments. If we are being totally frank here, if pool is to find any success there needs to be a centralized organization and tour...

Jayson Shaw 14.1 Run Story to Air on "60 Minutes"

I think she is a great spokesperson for the game. I liked her response to the idea of the backroom gambling. No wasting time and resources on compliance or enforcement, just a recognition that success will remove the need for alternative revenue streams for the players.

    Matchroom dumps WPA!

How does this affect the World Championship? Will that still be sanctioned, or will the WPA have to find a new promoter. I think they will ultimately have to relent as the Matchroom calendar gets bigger and the WPA rankings don’t take some of the biggest tournaments into consideration.

Tired of hearing how straight pool is the best game

I too struggle to make all 14 balls

Fargo question- could be a dumb one…

I think there are a lot of reasons why one player with a higher rating may lose to someone a bit lower. 20 points isn’t that much in the great scheme of things. I’d be more curious which of those two players has a better overall tournament record. By comparison, I believe I’ve heard Ralf...

    Automatic aiming

I’m not sure how much snooker you watch, but HD and fast frame rates have made it clear how nervous those guys get. It’s not uncommon to see the top guys shaking like a leaf when they are on the shot.

Predator World 8 Ball Championship (Nov 19-22), Puerto Rico, Winner $60K

I was pleasantly surprised by the winner break format. I honestly don’t remember the last time I saw ever a winner break 8 ball tournament. Maybe the IPT?

Fargo question- could be a dumb one…

I think the evolution of breaking strategies has as much to do with it. No one is trying to crush the rack like Johnny Archer anymore, instead they are doing controlled medium breaks. I tried a few racks with the delta rack last night doing a medium break and I still wasn’t getting many...

Predator World 8 Ball Championship (Nov 19-22), Puerto Rico, Winner $60K

The CSI matches are always spaced out by quite a bit. I’d like to see them schedule matches closer together. I often watch fewer of their matches because I get distracted in the 1-2 hour gap between them.

Break Stubbornness at the 8-Ball Championship

I’m on the fence there. I want to say yes, but the break can be funny.

Break Stubbornness at the 8-Ball Championship

Is that the match against Sniegocki? He missed an easy 3 into the side to get on the 8. Both players had equal chances.

Break Stubbornness at the 8-Ball Championship

Where can I find that one? My position is typically that if the opposing player had a chance at an open pot, they had an equal opportunity to do the same.

Fargo question- could be a dumb one…

Do we mean beat the ghost once in a blue moon? 50% of the time or 75%+? I’ve seen this discussion here before and the estimation I agree with was that someone who wins occasionally is at least a 575 player, a person who wins at least half the time is around 625-650, and the player who rarely...

Break Stubbornness at the 8-Ball Championship

I like the winner break, I haven’t seen anyone get blitzed with no chance even though there have been some big packages. This isn’t 9 ball where you can miss and leave nothing, or dominate quite in the same way with safety play. Every match I saw both players got plenty of decent chances to...

Earl Strickland SPECIAL LIVE PODCAST with Kim and Reed at the Int'l Open

I feel like the move to 9 foot tables was the beginning of the end for 14.1. I was looking at the stats for the old 14.1 world championships and after the transition, the high runs exploded. More frequent 50-70 hall runs means longer innings on average, which is harder for a fan to watch...

    Matchroom events pocket size

I’m not convinced that 4.25” pockets with brand new cloth is all that tight. If anything players are wilting under the pressure of the tv lights and having a top pro firing back at them. But once all the lower level players are out of the tournament, we end up with top players shooting at...

    Matchroom events pocket size

I’m not sure that pockets should be made easier to accommodate lower tier pros and amateurs. These guys are getting crushed by the top players anyways so it doesn’t really change anything.

American 14.1 Straight Pool Championship (Oct 24-29), Norfolk, Winner $10K

I would agree generally, but alternating between reds and colours makes snooker easier for casual fans to follow. With 14.1, if you don’t know the game, it can look a bit haphazard and random. It doesn’t help when commentators struggle to predict the players patterns. And that is common...

American 14.1 Straight Pool Championship (Oct 24-29), Norfolk, Winner $10K

I would agree with this sentiment. You can’t eliminate luck but straight pool is probably the game where it plays a slightly smaller role. Outside of the call pocket component, it’s harder to miss and leave your opponent nothing. There is usually a shot or a safety you can play, especially...
