Show us your Merry Widow Cues!

I guess these will fit Cornerman's description of an original Merry Widow having single wood for the butt & simple rings: First two cues from the top (kiiroi wood & Purple Heart): Closer look at the solid Purple Heart

Win a free Jay Flowers Style Cue Case

Honestly, I play pool because I don't get sweaty (most pool halls here are air conditioned), I don't get exposed to the harmful UV rays of the sun, and I get free ab workout while enjoying the game, and I can play it no matter what the weather is outside! Most importantly, I find it as one of...

    Bringing your own pool balls

I used to bring my own set of Super Pro's until the centers that I go to upgraded to Super Pro's. The advantage of bringing your own balls is that you are getting consistent roll and reaction as your balls are of the same density & diameter (some house balls get interchanged and and even have...

    Grip pressure questions

When I was learning the fundamentals, my instructor taught me to have a loose grip using 3 fingers on the cue (some space between the hand & the cue) to develop a feeling of relaxed/fluid hand swing. When my hand became more relaxed & my swing became more fluid, my Instructor taught me to grip...

How would you guys rate a Win leather case?

I was told by a case dealer of win, instroke, dc, etc, that WIN is produced in the same factory as Instroke in Taiwan. I've seen a Win case & they almost have the same features as Instroke (moisture resistant fabric, pvc tubes, etc) except for the Diamond latch & other aesthetic features. I...

How to explain a Cue purchase to the GF/wife

Tell her that it's just like buying a designer bag (if she's a fashionista): they hold their value and even earn interests if it's a limited ed.

Cue Protection - what is "enough"

Since the bottom will not be opened quite often unlike the top, perhaps you can make the the bottom be closed/open using screws. I guess it will also keep the bottom strong, tight, and sealed instead of snaps or latches.

    wrapless cues?

Most of my cues are wrapless. My "learning-stage" cues were all wrapped. However, when I got to play my 1st wrapless, I instantly fell in love with the way it feels so I've always preferred wrapless ever since. Aside from the feel and natural beauty of the wood being highlighted, one of the...

    Cleaning Tricks and Techniques....

Here's what I do: FERRULE *Cover the tip & wood part of the shaft. Brush the ferrule with moistened old toothbrush & toothpaste to remove dirt, then wipe dry SHAFT For regular maintenance, burnish & clean it at the same time with a SUEDE microfiber (Microtex) When the shaft gets really dirty...

    Cue holders

I don't think the pro's don't care that much as most of them are sponsored so they can ask replacement cues or even have them repaired instantly. Just look how Earl takes care of his cues

Cue Protection - what is "enough"

CUE PROTECTION: 1. There should be no pressures on the lateral & longitudinal sides of the cue. The cue should be like "floating" in the air or suspended in a jelly 2. It should keep humidity at normal levels. I play in air conditioned centers wherein humidity is set at comfortable levels. The...

    Interesting question about Bustamonte

I was told by a former local pro that this is a form of strategy to catch opponents (even spectators) off guard... like bluffing. The opponent is like fixed to the idea to what he's gonna do & what's supposed to happen with that shot then suddenly he gets baffled as to why it didn't happen that...

    Why is Southwest a SOUTHWEST

I'll toast to that! Even if you can't run-out balls or even if you only win once in a blue moon, having a "show-off" cue with great reputation of performing well (in the right hands) can't destroy the PRIDE of owning such coveted cue  I hope Mrs Franklin will call earlier than...

Trying to get in touch with JUDD's Custom Cues

Hi guys! I was wondering if anyone has recently tried to contact Mr & Mrs Judd Fuller. I've just sent 2 emails in the past 3 weeks asking for a quotation for a customized cue yet I haven't received any feedback. Unfortunately, I cannot call them as overseas phone calls will scratch my pocket...

    Butt Stiffness

I have a solid purple heart butt (no points nor inlays, just rings at ABE) from Viattorre Custom Cues which took about 15 months to make. I asked Jackson why it took so long to make the cue than a segmented one and he said that it's harder to make a solid butt since the probability of the wood...

    Who is your "Mentor"?

Lester Dulawan of Pool Players Academy. He used to be a Pro Player who would compete together with Efren, Django, etc, but later decided to concentrate in teaching pool using a more scientific approach. Rubilen Amit was one of his former students

    Wrist?

True. This was also being taught to me by a pro-turned-instructor who used be in the circle of our local Pro's (efren, busta, etc). He said that it pays a lot to develop a fluid wrist: imagine how much more power you can deliver with extra 3-9nches of swing space from the wrist's swing alone...
