I hear that one of the side-effects of nookie nookie is that one day you will wake up and half you stuff will be gone...lol. Of course, just like any side-effect, it doesn't happen to everyone and varies in severity.
That's going to be a little rough to get what you want for $1000. The options you want are pretty expensive:
Ivory Joint: $250+
Ivory Ferrule: $75 each
Lizard Wrap: $200+ (leather wrap: $100)
Ivory Buttcap: $250-400+ (Depending on size)
Just in options you're looking at nearly $700-800...
My guess would be that the changes you are applying don't feel natural and so you're not able to concentrate and relax like you normally do. Once you get your changes feeling natural you can have any tempo you like. If you go back to what feels natural, ie what you've been doing without all...
Custom cues...
My first cue was a cheap Dufferin with what I guess was a 11-12mm tip on it. I was strictly a bar player at that time and when I decided to upgrade I gave that cue to an 8 year old kid who was pretty darn good. I then bought a Mali for $120, I think. I played with that cue for...
I'd say that since it's not much more than a Dufferin sneaky you might as well try it out. Worst case scenario, if you don't like it and the maker won't work with you, you can sell it and probably won't lose too much on it.
I agree, I would not order a cue from such a cuemaker regardless of how much I might want one of his cues! I generally try to get an idea of pricing before I contact the cuemaker and if he high-balled me like that, I would never do business with that person and, furthermore, would discourage...
Unfortunately, my snakewood cue won't have as much work as that one and will have no ivory in it. That being said, I am sure I will be ecstatically happy with it!
I've had a couple of Gilbert's in the past and think they play great. I currently have a custom jump/break on order with him as well. I, however, have not played with cues from either of the other makers.
My $.02 for what it's worth, even though it's actual value is probably much less...lol.
I just purchased my tickets for all the sessions!
Out of curiosity, is there anyone who will be staying at the hotel that would be interested in splitting the hotel costs?
This is a fantastic idea! I play in some in-house leagues in the two pool halls here that I frequent (Columbia Billiards and Rack & Roll Billiards) and have played in APA and TAP leagues. I much prefer the in-house leagues to the bar leagues. Plus, they're played on the big tables!
However...
Yes, Mr. Madden is correct, it is a beautiful piece of snake wood! This block, I believe, will be used for points, among other things. This wouldn't be a very good teaser if I told you right away who the maker is, now would it...lol.
