    Hypothetical BCA situation

While the rules suggest that you could not shoot the 8-ball in this situation, IMO, the authors probably hadn't considered this hypothetical situation when they wrote the rules. If I happened to be the ref or TD, my judgment is telling me to say the guy can directly shoot the 8-ball. If he...

How Would You Play This? 12/19/08

This is what I'd try to do, which I think has already been said more or less. http://CueTable.com/P/?@3FbMC1HSSf1IQOU3PTCw3abMC2adxA1cSSf1cTYk1cYGH1dQOU1dRUP1dRUP3kTCw3kXrI1kIvh1kOKN1kVje1uDKP@ I'd aim to contact the 9 somewhat thin, like about a 1/4 ball or so. If I miss the 9 entirely I...

Should Corey be punished in RENO for being smart.

That's a great question. WPA rules don't really talk about the intent. I don't know what the rule authors had in mind, but my take is that the intent is to ideally have all of the balls frozen to every adjacent ball, a 100% perfectly frozen rack if possible to achieve within a practical amount...

Should Corey be punished in RENO for being smart.

I am still wondering, was Stevie making the wing ball? If not, someone needs to buy him a copy of Joe T's book. Everyone who is paranoid about "rack mechanics" in rack-your-own needs to buy that. Then you'll realize why the 9-ball rack is inherently flawed because the wing ball is automatic...

Another 10-Ball Thread. Current and future state of the game.

Thanks! That is good to know. Does anyone have any reports on how the pros liked the rules? I have my own opinion on the rules they are using for 10-ball, but it would be nice to know if the rules have been well-received by the pros, or if they generally don't care for them, or if the...

Should Corey be punished in RENO for being smart.

I'm curious about something: When Stevie racked for himself, was he making the wing ball?

Should Corey be punished in RENO for being smart.

I disagree, but I guess it depends on your definition of a move. Maybe the guy just wants to break the balls in the way that he feels gives him the most advantage. If he's trying to shark his opponent in the process, it's not obvious to me.

I really hope this happens and TAR streams it. Sounds like this would be awesome to watch. :)

Should Corey be punished in RENO for being smart.

A few points: - People keep saying that hard break makes the game exciting and Corey's break makes the game boring. Of course, you are correct.... about what YOU think is exciting. However, not everyone has the same tastes. I like hard breaks but I also like variety, which can mean some soft...

Differences between the World Standardized Rules and the BCAPL rules

Three Foul Rule BCAPL Rules: 3.6 Three Successive Fouls (9-Ball) If you commit three successive fouls in one game you lose the game. After your second successive foul your opponent or a referee must warn you that you are on two fouls and you must acknowledge the warning. If the warning is not...

Differences between the World Standardized Rules and the BCAPL rules

I don't think an official comprehensive thread on this topic exists, so I thought it might be interesting to make one. I don't have enough time to do it all in one shot, so I thought if there is interest we could put it together over time. Hopefully by the time the BCA Nationals roll around...

    Rack Mechanics

I would agree that high profile, televised, pool events are better off with a 3rd party specialist or specialists to rack for the players. The less the tournament budget is, of course, the less practical that becomes. So when then? One of the two players has to rack. I maintain that...

    What's the proper etiquic?

It's impossible to break from the kitchen with a perfectly level cue because the rail prevents it from being level. So that's why the cue ball jumps; you're hitting down on the ball just like other legal jumps.
