Yes that is possible. You may have to have the facings replaced, but that is not a big deal.

There are small pin nails on the underside of the rail holding the trim in place. Those all need to be dug out first then the trim will come out much easier.

The sand paper works great. Just have to gradually go down. These scratches and chunks were about 1/8 deep at the worst. I started with 80 grit and finished up with 1200 then polished with cleaner wax. Looks as good as new now. Before: After:

Its not a problem. I have those problems too when putting in the after market pockets on the old Gold Crowns. Just cut the bottom off the pocket and its no problem.
