    Buyers beware!!

Separate from the dispute over the cue. Buyer beware of PayPal... their buyer protection, or whatever they call it, is in name only. A paper tiger that claims they'll step in but, good luck getting to that point. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has had any benefit from Paypal on a...

    1967 Poolhall in Manhattan

That would be "Mean Streets". I still put that at the top of my list. Scorsese, De Niro and Harvey Keitel. Alright.... I'm gonna say it> it's a brilliant film and it still holds up today. I grew up across the river and spent time in the city as a kid and a teenager, so there's a bit of...

    the highs, the lows

This was not a round robin match. These were two top level players. To be clear, it didn't involve Hohmann or Appleton, they came to mind as exemplary players. The take away being> Everyone has those moments when thing don't go well, you're not alone.

    the highs, the lows

Last week I had the good fortune to attend the straight pool championship for the first four days. This was my fourth year. It’s a real treat to see the game played at the highest level. It inspires me and I love it. There is an aspect of seeing all this live play that doesn’t seem to be...

    Some updates 14.1

No hubris there I,d say youthful impetuousness and defend Filler. He is not full of himself. I wasn,t aware of the foul. I cringed as he got down on the shot he took. I thought the one ball up table was the better shot, even with bridging over that small cluster. Did anyone see something...

    14.1 Stats -- 2015 World Tournament, Round-Robin Matches, July 2015

Filler dispatched Thongsouk In their 3 PM match with a run of 100 in short order... Maybe 25 minutes? He,s good fun to watch... Confident and fast ... And the youngest here, for sure. I hope he plays well and advances. Thongsouk showed his character. Not getting to the table, but encouraging...

    ball marker

stand back! Dan, You've opened this up in ways... well... I'm not sure that were ready for. When you write "nature's marker", I can only think of my hound and his instinctual reaction to the territorial imperative. I think I'll stick with the barbeque fork... and don't get to close> I have...

    ball marker

How about that big two prong barbecue fork from the grill?.... just wipe the grease off of it before you put it on the table> pool table, that is. The truth is, there are lots of things that will do this job adequately. [What is the job?] It comes down to how simple or fancy you want it to...

    GC I/II color code

color match It may be obvious to you, if not... Consider having the color analyzed at a good paint shop. I've been impressed with the accuracy of this process and the results. Modern technology at work. Good Luck.

Highest 14.1 Run ever in Competition

Evgeny Stalev "I'd call those the highest runs in "almost competition." Where's the opponent? " I agree. You may want to consider Evgeny Stalev's 225 at Steinway last August. The match was to 150 against Mike Davis Here's the match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j8BXFhVmx8

    My 25 Cent Chalk Holder...

Joey, This is just one piece of chalk that I've kept in my case for league. It's probably been more like two years, but used once a week. You're using the term friction tape, which to me [up here in the northeast] is a different type of electrical tape... cloth impregnated with some sort of...

    My 25 Cent Chalk Holder...

Yes, a smaller washer will require less force to separate the two... or, a smaller magnet. I converted a belt clip for a chalk holder and used a magnet that does the job, but isn't too big. The chalk stays put, but doesn't need so much force to remove it that it pulls the washer from the...

    My 25 Cent Chalk Holder...

Hi, Nicely done. On the chalk side.... I've just cut a piece of 26 ga sheet metal to fit one or more sides of the chalk and then wrapped the cube in electrical tape. Masking tape would work too, I'm sure. Be careful after your game.... you never know what you'll wind up attached to. Dave

    Best Pool-Related Deal Ever

my good fortune 6 or 7 years ago... Wellfleet Flea Market: A Willie Hoppe Professional in a fishing rod style case. Early on a Sunday morning, I saw the case from about 10 yards away and my heart started to race. 7 dollars, cash money. I thought in might be a WHP when I saw it from afar...

    Cataracts

As for the weed reference... I think the jokers are confusing glaucoma and cataracts. As for cataract surgery. I had the procedure on my dominant eye about two years ago. Nothing bad to say... I see the balls more clearly with just about 20/20. I'm having my other eye done in a few weeks and...
