And congratulations to Richard's opponent, Chris Futrell. Here's another true gentleman with a ton of game and a very proud mom. And don't forget...

    Inner Game of Tennis

I've never read the Tennis book but have read the Golf book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Golf is way more like pool than tennis. Andy

A shot in the 14.1 Warmup tournament

Shoot away! I've pondered this question many times myself. My offense-minded thinking is this: Playing a lesser player - shoot because they will only run so many balls before missing and you'll be back at the table. Playing a better player - shoot because they'll win the safety battle with...

    One eye player?

I'm legally blind in one eye - no focus point ever since an accident at 3 years old. You just don't need true depth perception for most things in life. You just learn depth by knowing the size of objects like pool balls. Now, if an alien ship shows up in the sky, I won't be able to tell if it's...

    Celebrities and Pool

ESPN announcer Jay Bilas used to play pool with his roommate NBA pro Mark Alarie at the game room at Duke University around 1985/86 every week. They both played adequately but never played anyone else. I played NBA pro Johnny Dawkins a few games. He was a good shotmaker and extremely...

    Celebrities and Pool

How about James Tolkan from "Top Gun" and "Back to the Future" and a bunch of other movies. I've heard he's a strong supporter of pool and plays a little too. Andy

More One Pocket Breaks and First Shots

Joey, Let me know how that works out. I forgot to mention that when I break, I break from the side rail and don't even hit the 1 ball. I'm aiming at the 3 as if I were cutting it into my pocket. I make the 11 in my pocket more than 50% of the time when all 15 balls are frozen. Andy

Top picks for the 14.1 Championships??

All kidding aside...I heard Ed Deska got the invite. He's a competitor and I'll be rooting for him to do well. He's got a decent chance to make it out of the round robin stages. Andy

Top picks for the 14.1 Championships??

I'll go with Mika Immonen just because he played so well at our Maryland qualifier over a strong field. His break shots just looks so comfortable and confident. My dark horse pick (Don't tell him I said he's a dark horse!) is Mike Davis who is quickly figuring straight pool out during the last...

More One Pocket Breaks and First Shots

 Hi JoeyA, I've analyzed this exact problem. I don't much like 1-pocket but I enjoy studying those break shots. The "selling out" of the 15 ball is determined by 2 tracks of connected balls and the spaces between them. Track A is 3, 6, 10, 15. Track B is 3, 5, 9, 14, 15. If everything...

Best shot you ever made to win

I'm not much of a 1-pocket player but wound up in this situation. End of the night - I'm up 200 marshmallows and my opponent has doubled the bet several times trying to get even. So one game for 200 and I need both balls. I ended up 400 richer! 2 page diagram. I'm guessing real 1-pocket players...

Maryland 14.1 Tournament - my story and AWARDS

Hi Scott, Oddly enough there were 2 Mike Davis's in the tournament! The Saturday Mike couldn't shoot his way out of a rack but squeaked by with a 2nd place group finish. The Sunday Mike ran 84 and 91 and reached the finals losing to a sharp shooting Mika. Andy
