    Fab cue lathes

Novice here: Just as a back ground I have no back ground. I turned 1 cue on a standard wood lathe. Just wanted to get that out of the way. I am no expert. That said my question(s) are regarding modifying a wood lathe to turn cues. I have seen porper's, hightowers and unique's cue lathes...

    Before I try this...

Thank all of you for your advice. To clear the air as to why I'd like to save money where I can, the short answer is I don't intend on selling cues that I make. I got into wood turning this summer and I love pool so cue making is a great way to learn spindle work while getting something out of...

    Before I try this...

The other day I was mulling over how not to let Aylas take too much money off me during an order, and thought that maybe instead of using thier black phoenalic collars, using black epoxy in a heavy dose and sanding it down after drying. Has anyone else done this? If so is it better than trying...

What the best way to taper a shaft?

Thank you both for the replies and the help. I am on a real shoestring budget so buying a cuesmith may be a bit in the future. Off hand how much do they run? Is it possible to continue using my lathe and elbow greese or do I NEED a cuesmith?

What the best way to taper a shaft?

OK so this will ID me as the rookie I am, but here we go: Taper bar? My first try I used a caliper on an old cue. Then took a pairing tool every 3 in down the shaft. Once I'd have the diameter down with the pairing tool out came the fluted bowl gouge and then many many many different peices...

    Rookie stuff

The hammer and sickle is an inside joke between me and a few guys I served with in Korea. ICBM is a handle I've had on other boards and it's meaning is ironic with the logo, not intentional. If it offends I will remove it

    Rookie stuff

Hello all. I am new to the game and was wondering if anyone here cores and dowels shafts? If so what sort of drill bit do you use that could be so long? Also with balancing the whole cue, what is the right balance to evenly distribute the wieght? Or do you go slightly over in the handle...
