More than likely it is due to the shaft. Quality of wood, taper etc. Also, Bocote has a nice crisp feedback IMO. The Ernie I had was in between not to stiff not too flexible with a softer hit. It seemed a little oversized at the a joint. Taper kind of reminds me of a huebler.

If you got a lathe, clean the wrap with some 409 sprayed on a cloth, hit it with a 600 grit sand paper, clean it again, spray some starch on it, use a iron to heat and press it, get some neutral kiwi shoe polish and apply with rag. it will shine like it has clear coat on it.

Is abs or pvc better? I know that abs is softer but ive never worked with it. Does it polished up better than pvc? Any advantages, or is pvc better for joint collars etc.?
