Johnny Archer and Earl Strickland deliver in San Antonio

Pooltchr, I attended one of their classes in Oregon in July. It was good in that you could get up close and watch exactly what they do. Johnny Archer gave some tips here and there and Earl kept trying to get everyone to shoot like him with one power stroke shot after the other. One really can't...

    My New South West Cue

Here are a few pictures of my recent purchase of a Sout West cue. This one was made in 2005 and was as close to new old stock as you can get. Two shafts with one unplayed and the other with only a few hours of play on it...if that. Six points with three veneers (green, black and orange). The...

    Non-CNC Current Cuemakers

Dave Bollman does not use CNC or pantograph. His short-spliced forearms are done by his hands alone and he does a very good job. They don't have the perfection of Mottey or Scruggs points with veneers but they also don't come with the gorssly exaggerated price tag either. I have two of his cues...

Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes!! I scratch so much more on a bar box than on a big table. I can't figure it out either except that I am used to moving the cue ball around and it just seems to find a pocket more often on the smaller playing surface. I practice on a big table so my shot making is very good on the bar box...

Dennis Swift Case, can not pull the trigger. Getting a bad feeling

I have a Swift case that I bought in 1993. I also have four Justis cases, a Thomas, Brian Bonner, four George cases, a Talisman, a Felinni, etc. Yes...I collect cases. Anyway, I have gotten more compliments on my Swift case than any of the others. I must admit that the leather is much prettier...

    Full Splice Cues ???

Dave Bollman makes excellent full spliced cues. He works out of Q-Master Billiards in Virginia Beach, Va. I bought one of his cues about a year ago. Full spliced, four veneers, stainless joint, Irish linen wrap and an ivory inlaid butt sleeve and perfectly finished. I paid $700.00 and that price...

Tiger Planet Pool 9ball - Cambridge MD $2k add

Yes. Todd Elkins is there and is doing cue repair. He re-wrapped a cue for me last year and did an excellent job and I had him put a new tip on this time. Excellent work as usual.

Efren Warming up with Billiards at US Open

I was at the US Open yesterday and I saw Efren Reyes warming up at one of the tables. As usual, a small crowd gathered nearby because this is when you can sit up close and watch what he does. He usually throws nine balls on the table and then takes cue ball in hand and runs the rack...rack after...

    The Miz

I saw Steve Mizerak at the US Open day before yesterday. He has obviously suffered a major stroke which has left his left side useless. He was slowly riding around in a wheel chair which he controlled with his right hand. He is still pretty heavy but I suppose at this juncture, weight loss...

Bustamante and Frost Play One-Pocket at Q Master

I went to Q-Master in Virginia Beach to play in the weekly 9-ball tournament last night but found it difficult to concentrate on my game because Francisco Bustamante and Scott Frost were playing one-pocket on one of the tables in the tournament room. They were playing for $400.00 a game plus...

    Masters Tournament In Progress

Robert Ray looks like he is in his late 20's to early 30's. Slender, short light brown hair and maybe about 5' 11" tall. Nice looking guy and very pleasant. When he bends down over the shot, he just looks like he was designed and built to play pool. And God is he calm. In the midst of a...

    Masters Tournament In Progress

Yes, Corey beat Josh Brothers. Josh is from Wilmington, De and is a very good player. The score was 9 to 6 if I remember correctly.

    Masters Tournament In Progress

Here's the latest as of 10:00 PM. Corey Deuel won his match on the one loss side and will play again. I think he will be playing Eric Moore. Bustamante beat Santos...Santos is out. Chris Futrell (15 year old local) beat Mike Davis then lost to Eric Moore (another local). Chris is out. Eric...

    Masters Tournament In Progress

I didn't even think to ask his name when I talked to him after his and Dave Bolman's match. He's a pretty nice guy though and was very pleasant and polite. He made some very difficult shots against Bolman and his playing style impressed me quite a bit.

    Masters Tournament In Progress

Corey Deuel has remained undefeated so far because none of his opponents showed up. Shawn Putnam lost to Santos and Dave Bollman lost so some guy from North Carolina. Never seen him before nor do I know his name but he plays really well. Corey and Scott Frost played some One Pocket and Scott won...

Where are best Pool Rooms in North Charleston SC

I don't know the exact address, but there is a small pool room called the "Shady Lady" on Red Bank Road just down from the Burger King on the left (with the Naval Weapons Station behind you). The last time I was there was in March and they only had bar tables. Not a bad place though and I'm sure...

Info Needed on Old Joss Cue

I recently bought an old Joss cue and was wondering if anyone has seen one like this before. The old style Joss logo is stamped on the butt cap as seen in the pictures. I saw one with points exactly like this one on the billiardcue.com web site but that one has a longer butt cap. It is described...

Buying a pool table, what do you recommend?

Roger, You are absolutely correct in all of your comments above. Gandy has gone out of business and the newer tables are definitely not of the same quality as the older ones. I should have specified that in my original post. I play in one of the local pool rooms that has newer Gandys and...

Buying a pool table, what do you recommend?

I don't work for a pool table manufacturer. But, I have owned a 4 1/2 by 9 Gandy Big G for the last 12 years and I like the table very much. I have Simonis 860 and Brunswick Centennial balls. I have heard the arguments against the Gandy Big G and the only one I agree with is that the pockets are...

    Help With Nerves

Hey! This sounds too painfully familiar. Relax. You aren't the only one who suffers from shaking hands when competing. In fact, more than one pro has responded to this problem with the simple statement, "you just learn to play with the shakes"! Some people drink beer (or whatever) to calm...
