What to use to secure a bumper?
You can wrap a rubber band around the stem as well , it works pretty good and no mess when you need to take it out.

Did you check to see if the rubber bumper was broached on the inside so it could be tightened down with an allen wrench

I use brass pins mostly for looks to go along with the brass rings I use in some cues, same with copper.

How to remove glue under linen wrap?
If white glue or elmers glue was used just a wet sponge while spinning will remove the glue. If contact cement , use mineral spirits.

Diamonds are the best. But if that's not in your budget I recommend a valley and order a set of Ridge Back rails for it.
