How do you guys handle the loud music at pool halls?

Tinnitus has run me out of our local pool room that I've frequented for years. Speakers every 15 feet or so that have bass sounds that you hear driving up to the building. It's on the second floor of a older brick building. When I have to play league there earplugs are a must. They enjoy the...

    TAR is not dead.

If you are in KC area We have an older gentleman that has shared some amazing stories of how pool was back in the late 50's thru to 80's. He started in NY and moved to Cali. He is in his 70's with a pretty good memory. Might help connect the dots on road players from back in the day. Saving up...

Sportsbars and Pool....a Conundrum of Opposites

That chapter gave some insight on what a good room is like. Treatment of customers, multiple revenue sources plus many other factors you shared are solid advise. Would like to give it a try cause we have many good pool players in my area that enjoy the game. Or just retire somewhere that has a...

Sportsbars and Pool....a Conundrum of Opposites

Yes times have changed Macguy. It is the closest thing to a family environment we could find. This room was about 8 lanes of a bowling alley. The owners thought it would bring in new customers. Something you can't see in that pic is the fraternity that came in before our Award meeting was over...

Sportsbars and Pool....a Conundrum of Opposites

Nice ideas floating around in this thread. My experience with pool rooms is mixed. Enjoy the bar scene as well as the pool room. But I met a wonderful woman at a local pool room that changed the way I see pool establishments. She was newly divorced and looking for a way to keep her teenage boys...

Next kid playing pool you see....

Nice thought about a simple compliment. My girlfriend has the patients of a saint and spends a couple hours every week on a junior league. Your point is dead on about a compliment being a boost to a young players confidence. But she gets them to another level by insisting on sportsmanship and...

Life....The Thing That Happens Between Tournaments

Your comments are true with me. The last couple years I have taken the time to make notes on my performance while at a regional tourny. When I go back and review them that 2nd world feeling creeps back. Yep it's like two separate worlds for me also.

A young player taught me something.

It's been over a year since I last played against this young man. His game still developing but showed much promise. His father is a top competitor in our league with his wife at his side every match. Stephen was a fierce opponent that always asked how you did something he didn't understand. Kid...
