Congratulations to Mike Dechaine winning Smokey Mountain Shootout

Hey, he was just getting warmed up a few weeks ago when he came up and took The Bangor Bash, at the end of March ;)

Great quote that lots of players need to read in an effort to speed up the game.

Unrelated to the overall speed discussion here, I find sometimes that I subconsciously "get sucked in" to how a player does his practice strokes...and I catch myself kinda copying them. Which sucks, for me...until I realize that I'm doing it, and go back to what I should be doing. On my league...

    Dechaine vs Krause

Mike played in the Maine State 9-ball tourney at Forest City in early December, and of course won. Besides himself, there were 5 others rated above 700 in the tourney, so not a ton of top level competition for him. (Highest being 746) 95 players in the tournament.

How many of you steal chalk from the pool hall?

I can honestly say that I do not. I always use my own, be it Outvsille, or Predator, or whatever brand I've happened to get last. That goes in my pocket, not on the rail. I do grab a few pieces of Masters when I go to our league Tri Cup tournaments, the League Operator has a box there for...

    Non-Gambling Pool Players

That is generally a fixed amount that you're paying in, with a chance of a return on the investment. To me. Yes, it is playing for money, and there is something on the line, compared to funsies. But it's not quite the same as gambling sets. To me.

    Non-Gambling Pool Players

after having made my post earlier, and reading others posts, I put a little more thought into it. If i were to gamble, I would very likely only gamble with people I knew. The only part of gambling on pool that I don't like is the "hustle', conning people, taking advantage of someone, and the...

    Non-Gambling Pool Players

I'm one of "those'...sorry. I don't have any issue with the concept of gambling or anything, I just don't have the extra money to put into play. I used to play for beers, or the occasional $5 bet, but I just can't really justify it nowadays. (I am that tight lately, sadly) I don't play...

For the guys who play with glasses

I'll be curious as to how you like these, so I hope you give us an update once you've used them a while. I used to have a dedicated pair of glasses for pool, I got them probably 8-10 years ago. My eyes have had lots of changes since then, I was going to get a new dedicated pair when I changed...

    ACS tournament craziness in Iowa

As has already been said, we don't know all the details. I still find it difficult to understand why folks resist starting the next match, unless it's an obvious strategic match-up matter.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Tri Cup was yesterday. I somewhat redeemed myself for the poor performance on Thursday. Playing a 4, he got out ahead of me by 8-10 points, the first few racks. I kept my $hit together this time, plugged away, and eventually came back to win. We were hill-hill, me breaking. I don't always...

League players pre-game rituals and venues.

I like to hit a few balls before playing my match, if I can. I don't need to play a practice game, just hit a few shots to get the feel of the cue in my hand and the feel of hitting the balls.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Major mental challenge last night, and I failed. APA 9-ball league playoffs. We're up pretty nicely after the first two matches, the other team has a super strong 2, a super strong 5 and a very good 7 left to play. Our team talks the captain into having me play their SL2 (I'm a SL5), saving a...

    Just Curious...

I'd like to say it does. But that would be giving myself too much credit. I don't play enough to enjoy any level of consistency, so it would be very generous to claim my game "fluctuates" ;) I do sometimes feel like I'm getting back to a level that I used to play at years ago. Then I come...
