    2007-your Man In Manila

Great result for Daryl and pool in the UK. I don't think the play was poor- it did get nervy at times, but Peach's strength of character saw him through. He has proved himself a worthy champion with the scalps he has taken in their own backyard. The balls seemed to be breaking awkwardly time...

    Where's the outcry!?

I don't think we need any outcry. It's natural for the home crowd to be partisan (look at the crowd in UK venues during the Mosconi Cup) and all too easy to get a little carried away when backing your own man. I don't really blame the crowd at all - in fact I am delighted they take the game to...

BBC Video - Like a Hurricane: The Alex Higgins Story

Alex Higgins was the reason I first held a cue and played. Without him there is no doubt in my mind that snooker would never have gained as much popularity as it did and enabled the likes of Davis and Hendry to make lots of money out of it. He was thrilling to watch and wholly unpredictable and...

    Mosconi Cup Underway

Well done to the United States, but it was a tie with the US retaining the Cup, which although not their main objective, was the 'Plan B' if they couldn't win it outright. I think the reason they celebrated and the Europeans didn't was pretty obvious - the US staged a memorable comeback and...

    Question for snooker players

The current tournament tables the pros play on over here in the UK are pretty tight and it's very very difficult to pot a ball along the top rail beside the black spot on these tables. In the 1980s the tables here were easier to pot on but they really tightened them up in recent times. A...

    Mosconi Cup 06 Predictions

I think USA will win because for my money the Europeans have got nowhere near their strongest team out for this event, whereas the Americans look to have it about right. It'd work much better with more players in each team - a true test of the depth of pool in both the US and Europe. As for...

How do the young players in Europe make money?

I know that only a small handful of British players could really genuinely be called professionals. Most of those have, in the past, made their money from a combination of sponsor's help, financial backers, exhibitions, competition wins and money games. There are many British 'pros', but most...

    Worst Pool Crowd Ever!!!!

I'm genuinely surprised that anyone could be down on the TV coverage. All of the guys behind the mic did a wonderful job in their own way I thought. I only wish we got to see more pool on TV captured like that and live too. We get what we want and we still complain? The crowd, by and large...

Do you think Wu will win again?

Wu does look in exceptional form, but over this distance I think anything is possible. He plays Pat Holtz now and I would love to see Pat spring a surprise on him - it might help Pat being an underdog in this one. It is hard to see any non-Asian player winning this now, but Souquet is always...

    A Smile Underneath The Mask

What an interesting post. It's difficult to believe that anyone could derive so much enjoyment from this, but I guess if it has made you happy then keep on smiling. Human nature should never really surprise us. Personally I will not pass judgement on players' collective or individual perceived...

    Reno Prize Money Cut

Overseas players will have spent a lot more than a third of their prize money just getting to and staying in Reno. I think most of them will now probably not bother with any future (hypohetical) tournaments. You can't book flights and hotels with that kind of pay cut.

    cant take no more,must speak.

Buzzer, I hope you keep on playing the American game whatever happens on the IPT. I think people will have learned that pool players can come together worldwide and some future world pool tour with decent money might come up. In the mean time there is the European Tour and the new American...

Chicago Cancelled Now On Ipt Web Site

Once again the IPT spouts forth an infinite deal of nothing. The continual stalling of a seemingly obvious final act in which all is lost is now beginning to verge on the ridiculous. Every Monday now we are treated to more variations on a theme and every Monday we are left simply none the...

After Seeing Earl vs. Nick VDBerg.

You make some excellent observations there, coreyh. You know, Earl is the guy I kind of 'loved to hate' and I don't mean that in a disrespectful or derogatory way. I loved his outbursts, his interviews and so on, but most of all I loved to watch him play in full flow. The man has been a...

    New tournament format?

I don't think I would even bother to watch. It's almost like playing the US Masters Golf on a crazy golf course. The whole reason the IPT has been so riveting to watch has been that the cream has floated to the top. I think that given time and the right amount of exposure the viewing figures...

Who would you like to see in this years finals/action in manila

It would be a brave man to bet against a player from the Philippines winning on home soil, but if you are asking who I would like to see in the finals this year, then I would have to be patriotic and go for a UK player of course! That's only an outside chance but maybe Darren Appleton might...

    Your man in Manila

Jerry, just a note to let you know how much your commentary is appreciated by us here in the UK - it really adds something to what is often a great TV spectacle and I look forward to hearing more from you in this year's event.

    And here is KT's letter

First of all, thank you Linda for posting that letter. I can't imagine the sort of thoughts that have been going through players' minds over the past few weeks, but I know that even as a simple fan of the game, I've been very worried and just hoping that somehow this whole thing can be resolved...
