Just got home from BCAPL in Vegas. While out there I heard from 2 different people that some players were 86'd from the Riv/tournament area for gambling. Would have happened prior to Tuesday A.M. Did anyone actually see this?

Yes ..I was there when it happened. It was stated by the cop...that gambling on pool was against the law according to the State gaming authorities...no warnings...just ejected. Both players were told to leave the hotel...and were not allowed back on the property ever again. One of the guys was not staying at the hotel...and was escorted off the property...the other was escorted to check out and then removed from the property. Was a pretty nasty scene amongst the other players observing. No gambling in Vegas....hmmmm....couldn't believe my ears!! Guess if the state doesn't get there cut on the gamble...it is against the law???

Can it be there was a very prolonged period of shouting and arguing about a bet between two players? As I understand it, the games were being played in the semi-public "gambling" area near the rear entrance to the Riv. Understand the Nevada Gaming Commission became involved. That's why the players were asked to leave the Riviera and not return. If you were there, what's the real story?

i think what lyn said hit the nail on the head. if you want to be 'loud and obnoxious' about your pool gambling, it will attract attention, and you'll get booted...much the same as someone who was loud and obnoxious out in the casino would be asked to leave. keep it on the 'downlow' and nobody ever bothers you.

Bingo!!!!!! if the state doesn't get their cut it's illegal. if those guys had lost every penny they'd won at a card table it's no biggie though. things like this keep me from believing in the law.

My prediction is this will happen NEXT AT DCC, as in Most States if you Gamble on a Casino Property where the STATE GETS A CUT GAMING Revenues, and Licenses the GAMING, the State is unhappy you are not giving them a CUT of your WINNINGS.
Think the State of Nevada is CRACKING DOWN because of the RECESSION, and Loss of Gaming Revenues.
I remember in the Old Day in Las Vegas getting CHEAP FOOD, CHEAP ROOMS, and lots of FREE COMPS. Now almost everything cost a lot because the State want their SALES TAX! Day of the $1.99 Steak & Eggs Breakfast are gone!!!!
The people involved, and boot off the Riveria Property should be happy they were not charge with a crime, booked, finger printed, and arraigned for trail under Nevada State LAW!

Every state that has legal gambling has a gaming commission or some such. Their job is license business for gaming and to regulate ALL gaming in the state in every business that's licensed. Are you really surprised that they don't allow blatant unregulated gambling to happen in Las Vegas? How many pool tournaments that happen in casinos have Calcuttas? How many allow you to have side bet money out in plain sight?
Sure the state wants their cut of all gambling that goes on, but it also is there to make sure the Casinos operate on the up and up. Imagine what Las Vegas or any other city that has gambling and casinos would be like with no controls.

It seems there is a lot of bad information here.
In a nutshell, Timmy Heath (who was only allowed to play with the understanding that he would not even fart in public) and a nother gentleman were playing some decent priced pool.
I was there about 1 AM - I think. They were getting a 'little noisy and a little drunk'.
As I understand, the Riv security (who are not the friendliest people in the joint) were in the area and they were attractd by the noise.
One of the players just HAS to yell out (while the security guy is talking to them) - I am tired of playing for $200 - $500 you cheap MF'er. Well, this really got the seciruty guard attention and he threw them out.
Can't say I disagree. People that act like that in a public situation only draw attention to the other 6,700 pool players that might want to make a friendly wager. It is beyond rude and was challeng the authority of the Riv security.
Maybe people will understand that gambling does not have to be 'in your face'. Too much booze and not enough common sense was the problem.
As Scott Lee stated - keep in on 'the low down' and there probalby will not be a problem. But gambling is not 'legal' - but has been tolerated. Just respect where you are and others will respect you.
