An Actual "Billiard Hall of Fame"

Why honor, for the most part, a bunch of self-serving degenerates and cry babies?

If you look at the state of the game in this country, the concept of "Stewardship" never dawned on most, if not all, of the best players.

There is a gentleman, whose name escapes me, but I think he's from Texas. Diana knows who it is. His father recently passed away.

He stated a few years ago that he wanted to create a museum of sorts with pool paraphernalia and collections he gathered over the years. I think his first name is Denny.

He might be a good one to contact for something like this. :)

Dennys Glenn, in Arizona, his dad was Pete Glenn.

Totally unsure of prerequisites for a Billiards HOF is. While not real familiar with her resume, what exactly has Vivian done?

Basically, she won one or two WPBA events but her importance to the WPBA was her 'fan appeal'. She whistled and talked and made the tornado motion when she won a game and got the fans involved, something most of the ladies could not or would not do. Some purists disapproved of her act but no question she put fannies in the seats-more than many ranked above her.

I spoke to Denny and Del a year or so ago, John..According to Steve Glenn, they are in no rush, and are looking for property in Vegas to buy, or build, a large combination night club and pool room, in which they want to include an upscale 'Billiard Hall of Fame'..They certainly have a huge head start already..They have cuesticks, balls, and misc. paraphenalia, signed by almost every name player of
the last 60 yrs.

PS..They even have quite a few signed 'no name' player's sticks! (like mine) ;)

They also have Willie Hoppe's 3C table in their possession.

Rich history-

Johnston City? Small town ala Cooperstown, Canton.

While it certainly would be less expensive to be there v's a bigger city,
someone would have to curate/work/live in the area,
also a bigger city may provide more traffic/tourist interest.

Maybe I should take an "If you build it, they will come stance"

With that in mind:
I always thought Steve Lillis and Tom Rossman and Mike Massey should establish a true pool church.

I know that the table is one place I find the holy and the spiritual.

In my opinion, the museum and the hall of fame should be one and the same.

The hall of fame should also serve as a hall of records.

The hall of records should also be available in the form of an online database.

The most reasonable location from a visitor's standpoint would be somewhere in the midwest, that way no matter where you live in the continental u.s., the furthest you would have to travel is " half way" across the country.

The location, however, is not so crucial when it comes to actual preservation of information and artifacts, which can technically be done anywhere. But it would be nice to have a convenient location.

The main problem is that a stand alone museum could never pay for itself. It would need to be partnered with an existing business, or be built around the model of a typical pool room that can generate its own income.

We have been exploring many options, and hope to find the right solution sooner rather than later.

As a matter of fact, if you know the owner of a large pool room who might like to expand their business, to (also) become the home of a billiard museum, be sure to let me know.

Mr. Bond..this is exactly what the Glenn's are hoping to accomplish, a combination museum and HOF!..And, believe me, they have done their homework!..BTW, Vegas is probably the most active pool destination in the US.(maybe the world) Has been for years now!..Very easy airport access, and (thanks to the casinos) always more cheap round trip flights, than any other city! ;)

PS..I am sure they are very aware of your ongoing efforts in preserving pool's legacy, and that when the time comes, they will reach out for your valuable support!

Vegas is the place. The Midwest does not have the traffic year after year that Vegas does. Even then, it would be tough action to get enough through the door at $5.00 a pop to pay the rent and lights ad the initial investment for doing the place up with some tvs that loop Earl playing the jump shot against Miz and of course insurance for the items that cannot be replaced. Also someone would have to be there during the BCA nationals and the APA Nationals as that would be the peak season so to speak. Either way it would need to be supported by something that would make it profitable enough to just cover the nut.

I know we're not Cooperstown, but i'm curious.

What should we do to create an actual Billiard Hall of Fame?

Where/why/what city should it be housed?

I have never paid much attention to the HOF but doesn't the BCA organize this? And do they have photos or any memorabilia on display in anywhere USA?

The BCA has been almost non-existent, in promoting anything pool related, for quite some time now!..Their occasional, disinterested involvement in the HOF, is a travesty!..It should be re-named, the BMAA (the Billiard Manufacturers Assc. of America) as that has been their only function for the last 50 yrs. or so!..Were it not for the efforts of individual promoters, Helfert, Griffin, Zuglin, TAR, etc., professional pool would almost surely have faded into obliivion years ago, had it been left entirely up to the BCA! :(

It's often been individuals that take up the torch, glad we have them!
