AZB Fund For Earl's Discussion on Aiming

What I would like to start is a fund that will go towards an Earl Strickland discussion.

I am not sure how much it would take, it should not require that much money. Probably $100 or $200.

We will then set up a camera in front of Earl, and he will discuss only Aiming for a full hour.

This should be beneficial for both Earl and AZB members. I am not sure who would conduct the interview, or if Earl would just talk on his own.

I believe Earl would say something like 'I own those little round demons and they hate me for it'.

Send me $15.

For him aiming starts with earmuffs and ankle weights...you have to pick the right brand or else you already are at a disadvantage before the game even starts.

It wouldn't do me a lick of good to know how he aims, but I would donate the whole $200 if he could get my stroke as nice as his!!!

You couldnt keep Earl on one topic for an hour no matter how much you pay him. It might start out with aiming but within 3 minutes it would turn into the same old bullshit about how pool is harder than all other known forms of human endeavor and how he is treated so badly.

Best of luck with that.

If we could get approximately 15 minutes on aiming out of the full hour, I think it would still be worthwhile.

I believe getting paid $100 an hour for just talking is a worthwhile project for Earl. There might be an expense for someone videotaping and uploading the video, but that shouldn't be too much either.

Believe what you want...I don't believe it would be good.

Edit:
And anyways, what would likely be best would be for you to meet him and offer him dinner in exchange for conversation about his theories on aiming...

That would be one of the biggest bargains ever. I like the idea but how do we know Earl has an aiming system or consciously thinks about aiming? Maybe he just knows where to aim after playing for decades.

He doesn't know

I don't think Earl, or anyone else for that matter, really actually knows how they aim. Geometry and mathematical equations can calculate how to make one round ball hit another round ball into a hole in a perfect, sterile world. In reality, the world we live in (including Earl whether he believes it or not), there are so many variables that enter into each shot that all that geometry, all that math, just acts as a starting point. The rest is, in my opinion, an infinitely complicated process performed by our complex brains that cannot be measured or calculated. In a nutshell, the systems can only do so much. The rest is left up to God-given talent. Some of us have it, some of us don't.
So, Earl, Johnny, Shane, Efren, and all the others we love to watch and emulate, just simply do what they do. When asked how they do it, they don't really know, all they can do is try to figure out a way to explain it to the rest of us. No one is a champion poolplayer from reading aiming theories or watching videos. They can help improve our game but only to the best of our ability.
Anyway, I think I would rather be blindfolded and play Shane for my life savings than listen to Earl talk about anything! JMO

Bam! :)

He has hit so many balls in his life- he learnt the usual oldschool way with try and error and made his expirience work for him (what every player should do!).
He just see the angles and points-and he is able to deliver the cueball where he wants, too...and this better than the most of us :grin-square:

Many professionals has been asked for the holy gral, their aiming systems or whatever- but at least they all are using the same and nothing new will come out in those discussions. Finally they have something what the most have not: Necessary table time and the willing to improve, to work daily on their game (in every direction!).

Most aiming errors are actually stroking errors. If you're smooth enough, there's hardly any aiming at all.

I think it's an interesting concept and I'd gladly contribute.

Having hired over 100 guest speakers to events, my best advice is ask him for just 15 minutes to talk only about aiming. I can't imagine the meat of aiming would take longer and once he feels welcomed, he'd probably rap about other subjects also.
