My picks

Warren
Ko
Mika
Morra
Yapp
Liu
Chinakhov
Wu
Ko
Dechaine
Alcaide
Liu
Chang
Shane
Hunter
Nikos

Sucks that Shane, Mike and Hunter are all playing at 6:30 am -_- But if they win, we get to watch them again at 9am I believe.

Edit: Also, if Shane wins his match, he might play Chang Yu-Lung next, the man who eliminated him last year. That will be a good grudge match.

At the risk of embarrassing myself, I'll take a shot at picking the final 16:

Kiamco
Big Ko
Immonen
Gray
Ignacio
Kazakis
Can
Wu
Baby Ko
Dechaine
Alcaide
Liu
Chang
Van Boening
Orcullo
Appleton

Let the games begin.

Those are great picks and I'm inclined to agree with all except Gray over Morra. I'd like to see Morra go deep in this and I think he will, it's his time, it's been his time this whole year, he's been tearing up the international scene.

of all the pinoys im rooting for the grizzly warrior warren to go all the way! been under the radar for all his career but very well deserving to be in the upper echelon of pool.

of course an all pinoy final would be ideal too =)

If I were betting, I might think differently.

;) aha.... so it is a case of who you WANT to win rather than who you BELIEVE will win.

It would be great if Hunter can upset Orcullo though. He would have to play much better than he did in the last round though. His opponent almost beat him although he was leading the majority of their match. On the other hand, Dennis roasted his opponent 11-1 earlier..

Who will be World Champion?

*25% of the last 32 are young guns or ex World Junior Champs (25 years or below). None of past champs in past 10 years were 25 or below
*Most of the elites (like Kos, SVB, Orcullo, Darren, Chang YL, Biado , Mika) have been steamrolling their opponents and had relatively easy opponents. None have lost any match except for Darren losing to that kid Yapp.
For most of them, the real tourney starts from last 16. For couple Big Ko, Biado it starts now in last 32
Forget about their great form smashing their weaker opponents in past few matches-when 2 lions are in a cage and only 1 can get out alive, the mental game takes over since at their level there is little difference in their technical abilities
Probably the top breakers have tiny little advantage but the mental game outweighs that.
They need to concentrate every ball, every shot and avoid any error ( yes at their level, just 1 error and they are likely out). And you really cannot play flawless unless you have strong mental game . Forget about playing prefect against the ghost or thrashing a weak opponent that all looks good on paper only :) It is a totally different ball game when you face a lion who plays as good or better , he is unfazed by you and he wants to tear you apart

Who will be Champion?
Sure the usual suspects will be favorites but I have slight suspicion young guns or old sentimental favorite may snap it
1) usual suspects
Big Ko, SVB, Darren Orcullo, Biado, Chang YL, Mika

2) young guns
Lil Ko- last year's World Junior champ is a phenom. Definitely a future world champ , just a matter of time. This kid is fearless .
Jeff Ignacio-probably leader ( with Johann Chua) of next gen of Filipinos

There is lot of talk about current World Junior Champ Aloisius Yapp but I agree with Darren, he can make last 8. Winning whole thing is a long shot - he has some way to go before he can get to Lil Ko or Ignacio's level

3) dark horse, sentimental favorites
Wu- he's been playing well past few months winning CBSA event and getting into final of another CBSA event
Yukio-he plays below the elites, still a relative unknown having to play qualifiers despite being ex- world champ. He is one of 3 remaining qualifiers in last 32.
Liu Cheng Chieh- this ex- World Junior Champ is relative unknown. Won qualifiers last year to get into main draw but this year need not. Had has relatively easy draw but can tangle with anyone.

So here are my picks for last 8 quarterfinals (4 quarterfinalists from each bracket)
ok I know it is actually more than 8 , but you got to hedge predictions :)

http://competition.kozoom.com/en/bigscreen/qatar/final/1/
1st Bracket
Top left -Ko Pin Yi or Biado
VS
Bottom left -Mika or John Morra

Top right -Ignacio or Aloisius Yapp
VS
Bottom right -Wu (over Albin)

http://competition.kozoom.com/en/bigscreen/qatar/final/2/
2nd Bracket
Top left-Lil Ko or Yukio (over Dechaine)
VS
Bottom left- Liu Cheng Chieh

Top right -SVB or Chang Yu Lung
VS
Bottom right-Orcullo or Darren

Lol it sounds so easy on paper, but in actuality he will have to face 4 monsters. I honestly feel if he can't win right now, he will never be able to.

Think about it. This has been his easiest draw thus far for the W9B. He's basically been sliding his way through the brackets, and even his next match is going to be easy compared to all the other monsters left.

Now imagine if his first 5 opponents were Yu-Lung, Biado, Orcollo, Pin-Yi or Appleton.

Based on his draw thus far, if he can't get it done, I don't think he'll ever have a better chance. NOW'S HIS TIME!

 yeah he is only playing with the current 9ball european champion, current 10ball european subchampion and current 3º 14.1 european... you americans need to look a little more outside of you country

This post will look even more embarrassing after he loses to Shane.

Euuuuuuuuuuroooooooooope

I've said in another thread that Aliusois Yapp might just win this, it was a prediction prior to the final rounds, just a feeling....but also I'm feeling Mike Dechaine can do really well, maybe win it too. so for me it's either Yapp or Dechaine.
