Dave I for one dont know who you are and dont know any of your accomplishments. It is my ignorance and loss.Ive been following pool for some time. Since Ernie started out making cues using his daughter's name Gina. Since I seen Toupee Jay play an exhibition with Mosconi. Since attending the Jansco bros. Stardust tournaments in Vegas when Billy, Larry Liscotti, and Danny D was tearing everybody up. Since Pat Fleming was putting out the AccuStats report before his first video. But I applaud you for your sensibilities and good nature and your healthy approach towards trying to unify a pool community. Rather than using your status or rank. I dont know what awards you've won or who you come home to at night. I dont give a darn about that. But you sure sound sensible to me.

My accomplishments are in no way important or worth mentioning. I was never a great pool player. I was ok. Mostly a straight pool player and a 9 ball player who in exchange for taking care of his family and other responsibilities, watched his game never reach its full potential. The sacrifices I have made were in exchange for taking care of things that were a hell of a lot more important than playing pool.
I consider myself a professional because all I do for a living is play and teach pool. It's all I do. I sell instructional material that I have written. Some say its pretty good, some say its garbage. That comes with the territory. My writing skills are the direct result of combining my education with my passion. Simulataneously, I worked a full time job as police officer, owned operated my own room in El Paso, and attended college. I don't regret doing any of that. For those that toss grenades at my lack of "credentials", pardon me for my responsible nature as compared to others. my credentials serve me well inside and outside the world of pool. I chose to go out and earn my money instead of gambling for it or establishing relationships with people that could finance my passion in return for owning a chunk of my return.
Today, I still play regionally and I play locally - at times I compete on the pro level (not all of the time) and when I do - I do ok... and no I am in no danger of winning out there - so I donate more money than I collect. I'm not an easy match for anybody. I may not have a large collection of trophies to show for it, but I do love this game. I do my best to support it - either by sponsoring regional players - donating to the cause - coaching players - or by assisting the TD's in organizational and planning issues. It consumes all of my time. A lot of what I do is done anonymously and I ask for nothing in return.
I know what I do is appreciated by those who are affected by my actions. I believe that pool is better off due to my participation. That being said, this thread ends my participation in discussions about the advancement of pool, the IPT, the UPA, and other issues. I'm pretty sure everybody knows where I stand with those issues. My skin is thick, but my patience and kindness has worn thin. I will refrain from making comments on these issues to avoid problems with the moderators of this forum. I will concentrate most of my particpation to the straight pool section of this forum, and reply to instructional issues, or other threads that do not contain hostility and drama. Basically, I am saying that I'll keep my comments regarding these issues to myself. That should alleviate a lot of the crap in this forum as it relates to me. Let it ride.
