#1 pool hall in america?

billiard rooms ...

I would always say the one with the most money action going on.

But memorable ones for me are:

1) The Billiard Tavern in San Diego (late 60's - 33 tables, closed circuit TV's, fountain, eating, private rooms, $10,000 exhibition table - would put many rooms today to shame)

2) The Golden Cue in Houston (early 70's - many pros humg out there, like
Jersey Red, Boston Shorty, Taylor brothers, lots of money action)

3) Magoos in Tulsa

4) SidePockets here in Wichita is the nicest and biggest room.

Upscale is nice, but if their is no money action, and just a bunch of kids running around in it, it scares the players off.

Chattanooga Billiard Cub ... Both the old one and the new...I loved the feel
in the old one...new one was nice and had was kept up ... its been awhile but I would guess that it is the same and is still there....very good food.
Gotta second this one; at least for the old one. Any time you have to walk up or down stairs immediately inside the front (or back) door, you have that old time pool hall feel. I love it.

Uugh
I wish I COULD forget the cigar shop
It's the main reason I won't stay past 8 or 9 (most nights)
Everyone goes over a buys a cigar (to look cool)
Then they come back and smoke it so we all can enjoy it

Pink cloth and black lights?

Go to Bull Wackers in Billings, Mt. They have exactly what you're looking for.

Ha, this is easy, I'm goin' with Red Barn Pool Hall, right here in my back yard. It hasn't even opened yet but it's the greatest, it gives Hard Times Bellflower the 8! ;)
Coming thru Kingman in a couple months on my way to Bullhead City. I'll stop and check Red Barn out.

I don't smoke so when I go to CBC in order to look cool and fit in I just burn a $5 bill in the ash tray. Would burn a larger bill but that would be too cool.

Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ is where I play and i love it there.

Funny thing is cigarette smoke doesn't bother me.
But when somebody flames up one of those big dog turds...........

In Magoos I found that that the decorative lighting is a mismatch. The blue did not match well with other colors otherwise I would have given the place number one.
(1) Billiards palce,Tulsa,OK
(2)Hollywood Billiards,Hollywoods,CA
(3)Hard Times Billiards,Greater Los Angeles,CA
(4)Tacony`s,Philadelphia,PA
(5) JimBob`s in Gulfport,Mississippi
(6)Amsterdam Billiards,Manhattan,NY

There may be other great places but I have not visited every place in USA.

By the way does any one remember Kramer and Eugene in Concord,NC where the Cheff of this pool room was reportedly paid salary of $80,000/year?The place was closed long time ago.

K&E's was a great room, in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was too upscale for that area at the time. Had they survived, they would be doing very well now that the area has grown up. I did enjoy playing there.

Favorite room in the Carolina's is probably Babineau's in Raleigh...Great equipment and great food!

Damn, and I thought Amsterdam Billiards was strong in that regard! In addition to its fantastic equipment, top players, great atmosphere and location, of course. I'd vote for it, with Master's in second, for NYC ... and Julian's, if my time machine were up and running.

haha Julians! Isnt that like the first pool room in nyc ? i been in there once.. felt like i was in the movie the hustler.

Spoiled here in L.A., there is HardTimes of course, a great poolhall not to far away in Riverside, lot of one-pocket in Santa Monica.

The nicest poolhall is Hollywood Billiards and speaking of women one time I was in there and a friend pointed out the Playboy Playmate of the year at one of the tables. I told several people she was in the room and could they guess where and they kept picking other women in the room but no one picked her and she was gorgeous but still only about #5 in that room. Hooray for Hollywood!!!

ROMINES IN MAUWAKEE WI IS AWSOME 40 OR 50 TABLES NOT TO SURE ARCADE, HUGE BAR,RESTRAUNT, PRO SHOP, IT GETS MY VOTE AND GOOD TABLE RATES...

i was just curious as to what everyone thinks is the best pool establishment they have seen?

The most interesting pool room in (north) america is in Toronto. It's situated in the old Brunswick factory on Hanna Avenue and called the Academy for the Spherical Arts. It has some of the most gorgeous antique tables you've ever seen - some worth over $100,000. One snooker table with a 3" slate bed was once owned by the Prince of Wales. They have two rare 'Monarch' tables with the cast iron lions for feet. The restaurant is also quite special although a tad pricey.

IMO - The best poolroom in America would be the one........

IMO _ The best poolroom in America would be the one I could walk into and everyone with ANY & LOTS of money would rate my game at the 8 ball under myself (in 9 ball) and 2 balls under my One Pocket game.
In other words - "It ain't the room I'm after".

I am not sure I want to go to a place with tvs....oh wait...he must mean Televisions...that may be ok......

Actually.....a place no one mentioned that may not even be there anymore....La Mesa Billiards in San Diego......Not just the pool room but the whole town is pretty nice.

Do you mean "On Cue" in La Mesa? I've never heard of La Mesa Billiards.

Is that where Jeff Boucher hung out when he lived in Billings? Heard he did pretty good in Vegas. If you are in the neighborhood before you head to Bullhead City (surely you aren't going until it gets below 110 degrees), stop by - temps are in the 70's here today.

If I could go back in time:

Chelsea Billiards, New York City
43 GC III's
8 Snooker Tables
2 Billiard Tables
24/7 Action

Amsterdam Billiards Eastside Location
30 GC III's
3 Ping-Pong Tables
Easily the most comfortable upscale room ever in NYC

Amsterdam Billiards Westside Location
Thank God it's still around!
30 GC IV's
1 Valley Bartable
1 Dart Board
Not as much space as the two others mentioned but comfortable nonetheless

Here's my list:

1. Hard Times, Bellflower, CA
2. Cuemasters, Norfolk, VA
3. Romines, Milwaukee, WI
4. Chris' Billiards, Chicago, IL
5. JOB Billiards, Nashville, TN
6. Las Vegas Cue Club, Las Vegas, NV
7. Hard Times, Sacramento, CA
8. Mr. Cues II, Atlanta, GA
9. Starcade, Ft. Walton Beach, FL
10. The Pool Room, Marietta, GA

But nothing compares to the playing floor at the Derby City Classic. Someone needs to set up a room that mirrors that place. The most amazing place I've EVER been is called Marco's in Glascow, Scotland.
