Hi, Im new the forum but not new to pool.

I dont know alot about older cues.
anyway, There is this guy at my work who says his mother inlaw has about 10-15 cues, a few balls, and some vests signed by William Mosconi. He said she was going to put them up in a yard sale and I told him to let me come look at them before she does. I am going over there this weekend, I am planning on buying everything. He said " how does 100 bucks sound per cue?"

I would like to know what to look for on the cues that would indicate older or authentic signature.

Are there certain older brands of cues that I should look for?
Or any links to pics of a signature or ANYTHING that I should look for that would indicate value??

Thank you to any one with some insite.

If there's cue markings indicating to George Balabushka, Gus Szamboti (or initials G.S), let me know. I'd gladly buy one with $100 or even $150. :)

The guy at work said his mother inlaw also has a buch of picture taken with him, so that kinda makes me think these are the real deal. He said all this pool stuff in just boxed up and ALL of the cues are in there own cases. Sounds kinda like a jackpot of billiards to me.
I cant wait to go check them out.

I am going to go look at them and will post what I find. I might try to take a couple pics if at all possible.

If you like the guy at work, tell him to advise his mother inlaw that she has some valuable stuff and she should get in touch with some one like http://www.billiardcue.com/ to help her determine the value.

If you don't like the guy, tell him you will haul away all of that trash cheap.

If you like the guy, but he doesn't like his mother inlaw, there may be a partnership in your future.

These cues and balls, etc. come up for auction once in a while. They don't get big money but there is reasonable interest in authentic signed Mosconi items. I don't think they get a lot of money because he signed a good quantity, especially in his later years when he was ill. There is usually a photo of him autographing the equipment.

The cues I've seen in the display case were cheaper, plain imports that Willie signed.

I can vouch for Hunter - take him with you if you can.

LOL that's funny, no matter who she called they would try to rip her off, but what's funnier is if you don't know you may be happy with what you get cause it may be much more then you had invested. OR she could be fooling this guy and he'll have a bunch of crap and be out a few thousand. Either way if everyone is happy with the deal why should we care??

Tate's right. Mosconi signed anything and everything, especially in the later years. I'd say you would be paying first for the autograph and second for the item that was signed, if at all. It would pay you to have the stuff authenticated first.
