New ring game thread opened in the main forum for the next tourney with all rules and payout structure changes etc.

Joe T here, we used to have ring games years ago up in Minnesota where we paid on the 5 and 9 maybe do the same, could be one chip on the 5 and 2 on the 10 with the 10 ball being the game ender. Something to think about cause it gets more people involved in the racks.:smile:

I played in a ring game last night for the first time and the rules are evolving. I have a question.

By intentional fouls do you mean a push? This game allows pushes with the option to the incoming player of returning the shot to the guy who pushed.

Other than that your rules are similar to ours, we have a second buy in option for half of the original buy in price and we play call the 10 ball.


I'm curious how you would have handled this situation. A guy dogged the 10 ball and got mad and hit the cue ball after he missed. Big argument followed, we finally played the game over with that player sitting out the game.

Oh in your situation that guy gets a warning or the boot. I've laid that down, if you can't play like a gentleman and follow the rules you don't need to be there.

For that game though it was unfair to the incoming player so I would have spotted the cue ball as close to where it was and resumed the game. If both balls were moved and it was impossible to move it back than I would have played the game over with the next shooter breaking.

Since this post was recently revived would you be interested in doing this sort of thing again? I know I would.

Jarrod the ring game was nice to do and the players loved it. It was the nuts for sure. I had some problems with management though that are still unresolved and I no longer feel the need to continually put myself out there and in return just get shat on. No thanks, I look at it like laying a foundation. If the pool hall endorses it and management supports it they can run it themselves or have paid staff do it.

I have helped out several folks around the country though and some people call and talk to me about these games from time to time and I like to help them out. I also like to go play in others tourneys if they are in a reasonable distance just to show some support for pool.
