OZE147 you're kind of missing the whole point about the use of the Diamond table as the test table.
No, I don`t miss the point of using Diamond Tables, or Brunswick, or Rasson, or whatever brand.
I agree, that the unification of playing equipment is a key element to professionalise every sport and if there would be an official World Pool Tour (or whatever you want to call it), it is mandatory to have official tables, cloth, balls, rules etc.
But as far as I remember, I never said anything against a standardization of our sport.
And yes, IF you want a fair skill test, everyone should use the same material.
But if we assume, that most clubs, academies and training facilities don`t already have this unified equipment, they need to buy it, need to get it approved etc.
So why should they buy it?
For taking the skill test.
Why should they take the test?
A: To be part of the new tournament series.
B: To set their skill levels and in the end verify, that they deserve their pro status.
To A: This new series isn`t active yet, so why should someone buy equipment to submit scores? And although the funding, as you said, doesn`t rely on buying the new equipment, it relies on your new developed glue and the will of people to accept your new product and the techniques to use it (with your experience in table fittings you want to spread). So in my eyes your are caught in a circle here.
That doesn`t mean that your product and your ideas won`t be a success, but you might consider, that it will take years till this new methods really spread.
To B: As I said, in some parts of the world, especially in Europe, people have quite a good idea about who can call himself a pro and who not. This players proved it several times. That is why they have their fundings, their sponsors and all that goes along with it. And if they lack consistency or don`t get the results needed, they lose this status.
There is no need for a skill test for them.
Don`t get me wrong, I really would love to see this work...but yeah...to be honest, I think that this whole thing isn`t really practicable.
You mentioned the lack of Pros in your area, hate to break it to you but, no area is guaranteed to have Pro level players, they're not picked based on population numbers, they're picked because their test scores show up at the top of the skill level rating charts.
Actually, there is no lack of pro players in my country. (which is quite amazing, if you consider the small amount of pool players we have here). We have a handful of really, really successful pros and semi pros and, as mentioned, they earned their fame through results, not just by calling themselves pros.
Let me ask you another question. Let's say pool was going to be allowed into the Olympics ok, who's going to provide the OFFICIAL pool tables to the Olympics? When you figure that out, you'll start understanding this industry a little better, because the bottom line is allways about sales....and nothing about the players, as long as there's no world organized pool players association, then the players will never have a voice, only their wallets!!!
I absolutely agree with you.
But I can`t see why this is an argument for why your plan will work.
