10 best players in the world

i remember lee trevino said that as well. and its definitely true. the pressure goes up as the value to you goes with it.
lee was one of the first tour pros known for betting real high. and making crazy games.

but the best don't choke or they don't become the best.

if i had to put my last money on a player shooting a super tough shot. it wouldn't be filler, gorst, but parica in his prime.

Yeah, I think the idea pertains to many, for risking everything you have just to make a score is something many of the greats tried at some point.

Efren was 45 in 1999, already on the downswing of his prime except, of course, at one pocket, where he was still the one to beat.
Oops. I meant to say he was 35 in 1989, not 1999, when he was 45 as you note.

The first match of decent video quality I saw of him was from 1988. I suppose my view of his skill in rotation games was colored by watching videos of him when he was on the downswing.

Many have suggested that Efren's best game was fifteen ball rotation, and many say he was the best ever player at the game. If you can get your hands on some footage, you might enjoy it. Much of Efren's best play was before videotaping of matches was common, and that's our bad luck. On the other hand, his prime as a one pocket player came later, and there's plenty of good footage of Efren in his peak one pocket form.

Chi Chi Rodrigues, just after winning a PGA event by holing a pressure putt on the 72nd hole, was asked by a commentator "how did you deal with the pressure on the 72nd hole?" His legendary answer was "That's not pressure, Real pressure is a twenty-dollar putt when you only have ten in your pocket."
It was I believe Jersey Red that said his worst nightmare he ever had was playing 5$ payball on his own money…he woke up sweating 🤣
