10 Ft Diamond Table questions

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new 10 Ft Pro/am Diamond table with pro cut pockets. I am wondering does anyone else have a 10 ft Diamond, and does playing on the 10 footer give you an advantage when going to leauge and shooting on a 7 foot bar box?

I’m always trying to challenge myself, and by no means did I master our gold crown 9 ft. I can only think playing on a 10 footer day in day out would only help focus and accuracy. Any thoughts ?

It can only help - and it should do that. To tune up for a match on a barbox, I would always try to practice straight pool beforehand. Preferably on a 9 footer though. But still good on what you're getting. It shortens the needed stroke and gives the needed touch required on a smaller playing surface.

Before League I always play with my father in law on our 9 ft gold crown. The pockets have been shimmed just a little to help. Even if I don’t play stellar at home(on the 9 ft) before I go to league, I get to the bar box and every shot seems like a cupcake shot. I can only think that getting the 10ft with pro cut pockets will make it seem even easier. But I also don’t want the new 10ft to break my confidence. I think the pros will out weigh the cons.?...?

Best way to get ready for bar-box pool is to play on one. Pockets, rails on them are totally different imo. The shots/patterns you see on a bb are unlike those on a big table.

No doubt about your barbox noted differences. Playing on them a lot is necessary to play on them well. Just sayin' playing on 'bigger' helped me play better on 'smaller'.

I agree shots and patterns are different... but they are just enlarged from what a bar box would be. Those bigger tables require a longer more accurate stroke, and when you move over to the bar box all it requires is a smaller stroke and less movement. Therefore in my opinion makes it much easier

Problem is FAR more traffic/clusters. Shots are shorter but dealing with the congestion can be quite tricky. Been playing on them for 40yrs. 9ball may be a bit easier but 8ball can be pretty tough.

it doesnt in my experience,
the tiny space makes it a very different game that in itself is a fun challenge
and different than that of 8ball on a big table

I agree... it does make 8 ball more difficult. I only play 9 ball. So my references are all about 9 ball.

Agreed again. That's why I mentioned practicing straight pool on a 9 footer.

We have a 10 foot Gabriels pool table with 4-1/4 inch pockets - tighter than a Diamond. I love practicing on it, and it should improve your shotmaking confidence on any size smaller table. However, you cannot take any shot for granted when playing on a smaller table just because you may have put in a lot of practice time on the bigger table. Bottom line regardless of what size table you’re playing on - any shot can be missed at any time and requires 100% focus.

I played on a 10’er at Best Billiards and I didn’t enjoy it. I’d rather play on a 9’ with 4 1/8 corners

Back to my original comment does anyone have a 10 foot pro-am diamond? I have played on one briefly at Mike durbin’s place (custom cue maker). I fell in love with the difficulty of the big table, but I just don’t want to be demoralized to the point where I regret getting the table. Any input from someone who has a 10 foot diamond would be greatly appreciated

9ball on a bb is easy if you break halfway decent. Top players will run MAJOR packages on them. Last weekend in Olathe a 67yr old D. Matlock ran two 11's and one 10 on a guy gambling.

In my experience:
One can get sloppy with position on a 10' and make up for it with accurate shooting.
One can get sloppy with shooting on a 7' and not be punished by poor position.

That's cool. I thought Diamond quite making the 10' tables 5 or 6 years ago. Please update with pictures when you get it installed:)
