$10 Moori tips?

What's the difference between Soft, Medium, and Quick Mooris?

The difference is the hardness.
Soft, actually plays like a medium tip
The new mediums stay medium for about a week, then their medium hard. And with humidity and damp chalk from the humidity comes the miscue boogie. I have switched a lot of the players such as Tony Roberto, and Frankie Hernandes to the soft, to cut down on their miscues. I only have one customer who likes the hard,

Moori tips are great tips and I play with one myself, but the story on the tip from the very beginning of its existance is a sham job dreamed up by someone in the field of cuemaking or cue repair. Guido tried to hand me one across the counter in 1995 for $35. No thank you! Then the story about him being on his death bed and not revealing his process, a ploy to raise prices if you wanted to. I spent 12 days in Japan in poolrooms everyday with a fluent japanese speaking soldier and nobody knew who or what the fuck I was talking about. I think someone should come up with Mr Moorii's real identity. Billy Stroud or whoever came up with this great money making scheme should just give it up!

I don't know about that. In 1993 when Sherm and myself were partners we had a mutual friend who lived in Japan and was working part time in a poolroom. he would get us a can of Morri tips and send them to us at costs but then it got where he could no longer get them for us as demand caught up with supply.

I recently had to return a can of Moori medium III's due to the leather being too smooth and therefore not able to properly hold chalk (miscue city). This was very surprising as moori's usually have texture you can feel with your finger and they normally hold chalk beautifully. Since I still had some previuosly purchased Moori mediums on hand I noticed that the color of the newer tips was more orange than brown. The supplier has since replaced the can of tips and there have been no problems so far. Anyone else notice this?

BTW, the Phillipino cuemaker offering Moori's for $6 each--that's a very righteous price for genuine Moori's nowadays. About 4 years ago when I returned to pool Moori's were very hard to get. That's when I saw them going for $45 installed. Until very recently my supplier in Tokyo was unable to get mediums. All other hardnesses were redily available. This went on for 8-9 months!

Has anyone seen any counterfeit Mooris III's? I was thinking it's only a matter of time before it happens.

There was a company in Florida two years ago selling 13mm ones, He swore they were authentic but I knew better. I think he's closed now, atleast I hope he is.

Very interesting information, Mike... While I love the way my Talisman Hard tip plays, sometimes it miscues, even though I chalk before EVERY shot... it might well be the humidity problem you mention. Also, when the humidity is up, it sure does make it harder to execute table length draws. Have you any suggesions on that score?

If your so fucking bright produce a picture and address of Mr Moori! I was stationed in Korea at the time and it was less than a hop and skip to get there. Did twenty years in the army, by the way. What the fuck have you did with your life? With the number of posts you have on this site it appears you haven't got much of a life outside of here.

That's what I've noticed. Do you know where I could get the older soft ones?

If I were making cues and had to stop that creative work to put on a tip I'd charge a lot. I think $50 is right in the ball park.

I was surprised to see Shorty go off on cue makers that way. From what I've seen of his prior posts it's unusual for him to have such a knee-jerk reaction. Some days are like that.

And hard to convey that I had been up since 2am sick with the back yard trots as my mom would say...so yes, I did do a knee jerk reaction and I am sorry.

DAMMIT! It's okay friend. I was just wondering. There was this cat who was selling them at a tournament near me last winter and I didn't jump on it when I should have. Oh well...if he comes around again, I'm snaggin em!

That is all they are worth. They are even cheaper if you buy more. A friend bought them direct and they were like $3.00 a tip.

If your friend bought moori's for $3.00/tip then they were not real! Direct from Moori, these tips are closer to $5.00/ea. 3 bucks only gets you a chinese knock-off!!! Besides, Atlas is the only North-American distributor of these tips. Moori will NOT SELL DIRECT to the states...

He was in Japan, not China and that is what he paid. Atlas would only recently the distributor if that is actually the case. I used to buy them from Sang Lee who sold a lot of them. Also from a Cal. distributor. In fact Sang Lee had them before most anyone ever heard of them and was touting them to the billiard players. When he was showing them to us we had no idea what they were and you couldn't give them to pool players It was a pretty long the pool players began using them.

It's my recollection that the first guy to bring them to the US and the one who made them popular was Richard from AAA billiards in Cal. Can't recall his last name right now, but he had an exclusive deal with Mr. Moori until he ofended him. It's my understanding that he'd been sucessfully selling them for $5 each when he first "discovered" them and brought them to the US.I bought some from him at that price in the early 90's. He later tried to "re-negotiate" his price with Mr. Moori who took offense and cut him off entirely!

You know I love ya little guy. Just trying to lighten up the debate.

Was that guys name Campbell? For some reason that's is in my mind. I think he may have had an interest in a pool room as well. I remember him sending me a bunch and the next time I called him he said he couldn't get them any more, in fact he had sold me his stash and would never have sold them if he knew he was going to be cut off.
