Hillbilly went for $2300 in the calcutta. I don't know who bought him or if he bought 1/2 of himself.

I guess no one knows how much the tournament paid versus the Calcutta..........................

The top players rarely buy any of themselves and usually complain the most about the calcuttas. They do want the jelly though and usually complain about that as well. It is an attitude I've never understood.

That is why pool tournament payouts should be geared toward the whole rather than just a few of the elite.

Paying 6 or 8 places whether it is the Calcutta or the tournament payout in a field of 64 or more is ludicrous.

Yeah Joey-------------this is the same fluff tactic that Janis uses with the Viking Tour. Let's make it look bigger than it is. Tournament payout and calcutta are two different animals. They never need to be added together, period. Entry fee vs. calcutta use totally different odds calculators when deciding win percentiles as a traveling or local player.

However, this is the current trend promoters are using to draw players into their tournaments. Get them there and than pillage them for over-inflated tour cards, high entry fees, green fees, 20 to 25% of the tournament purse and 10-25% of the calcutta.

Fluff tactic - Strong stuff -

We always pay 25% of the field and 12.5% in the calcutta. As far as the calcutta goes, few players are very involved in it anyway.

i can see your point in one respect, but you must relize that the director abd house man must try to make some. i doubt that MJ can say in honesty that he is banking mucho $$$ on green fees and card fee as i am sure vicking gets thier share, and as the calcutta goes, you dont have to buy yourself, as he states berfore each tourny!! if not for MJ and shannon Daltons tour very little action on the east of the mississipi!!!what tourny do you play in???

If that 10k figure includes the calcutta then that changes things. Its disappointing if that is the case. From what I understand it was a race to 5 loser breaks, they might as well been shooting dice. Even though hillbilly was the odds on favorite it still took some nads to buy yourself for that much cheese with such short races.

I think if you paid 25% of the field in the Calcutta, many more people would participate.

You know what....... NO CALCUTTA, stiff the Caluctta and have larger entry fees, that way the players who are doing all of the work get to see the larger pay for their work.

Maybe we just need to have a local tournament entry fee of $50 and a $100 entry fee for a regional entry fee (or more). A little added money, paying 25% of the field and you have some decent payouts for at least 25% of the players......................

YOu may see a POLL coming your way. ;)

I understand your feelilng and I have had this conversation with many.

Calcuttas are made up 90% by people who don't even play pool and if they do, feel itis a waste of time. Still, they come out and suppport the event and like being involved.

With that said, these guys make up any where from 75% of the calcutta to maybe 90%. So if buyer A drives his 200 plus miles andbuys 2,3, or more players, what chance does he have of making anything Unless all 3 are in the top 4. I have a loyalty those buyers just as I do to the players. Calcuttas for the most part are nothing compared to what they were years ago. If a buyer comes in andspends upwards of $1500 and doesn't cash, hewilllikely be stuck at the end of the year. To spsend say $800-1000 for a player who may payonly $1500 is pretty gutsy and they know this going in.

The guys in Louisiana did a great job andI'm happy for them, but that type of action is very rare today.

Most of the players that figure that way, seldom crack the top 3 or 4. They're perennial 5th-6th place finishers and usually barred from B & C player tournaments....
