11+ years later I get my South West

I agree with the black leather. Going wrapless is a 300 add on. I don't understand that. I had my name come up after an 11plus years wait. Ordered and paid for someone else as I was certain I had another spot coming up. He's thrilled with the cue, neither one of us have a slot coming, sooooooo, I guess I've paid it forward. I'm spending the money on a R bushka copy, and can't wait.
The combo of your woods and veneers rocks on that SW. Too late for wrapless, leathers next best IMHO

Who exactly is the cue maker at Southwest? Is it Laurie? I've asked this question a few times, have never received an answer.

Al and Mickey (Jerry's nephew) have been the 2 main guys building the cues for the last 20+years, they learned from and worked with Jerry. They have had other helpers come through the shop over that time but they are the guys.

Very poor form for cuemakers to bash other makers...

Agreed. Lauri would never publicly denigrate another cue maker's success or product, yet they do it to her without provocation.

To the OP, maybe consider a stack leather wrap. It's as close to wrapless feel as you can get, IMO.

I agree also... Trashing another cue maker is just plain poor taste. SouthWest happens to make a very consistent product w/ a simple elegance.

I'll have to give leather a consideration. I do think it would look perfect on this cue.

I don't want to insult anyone but for 11 years and the cost, I would expect to see something exceptional.............. and I just don't see it..... I don't think there are any special materials used or special construction techniques or any unique aspects of Southwest cues............... they are just an old name that draws people......... for what reason........... well it escapes me...........

If you just want to play the flipper game for a profit....... feel free.... but if you want a great playing cue then there are many cue makers that can make you an excellent cue in less than a year and for a lot less money............

Kim..

Kim you are not bright, it's kind of funny that you call yourself a cuemaker yet seem to lack any knowledge of cues or the cue market. The fact that you feel that the cue is just a simple cue tells me all I need to know about you as a cue maker. Let me take a wild guess and say that I could buy a cue from you for around $300 and get it in 4 months.

Supply and demand is basic economics, I am sorry you don't understand it, the reason for the 11 year wait is because they can only produce so many cues and they have 11 years worth of orders. The reason why they have so many orders is because they are the best selling cue in the world, there is no better name if you want to turn a cue (demand), the reason for the demand is because they have a long tradition of great playing cues.

The reason for no ebony is because they ran out due to the fact that people just get on their list to flip, and the minute people hear something is hot and will help them sell the cue that is what they order. So when the word gets out that wrapless are rare, everyone orders wrapless, and when the word gets out that Asia is buying up ebony nosed SW's then everyone wants ebony fronts. Once everyone orders ebony their supply dried up, so until they catch up on inventory they stopped taking ebony orders. They will not used ebony you offer to send because they don't have any knowledge of how the wood was dried or aged and it could present problems down the road and they put their name on it so they are not willing to take that chance.

Continue to believe that SW cues are nothing special and you will continue to be a garage hack who can't give his cues away, they will continue to make simple designs and have 10+ year wait list.

I'm with you on this 9eleven. I am pissed beyond belief that after waiting 11 years I can't get the freaking woods I want when other cuemakers are offering the same woods. This is a slap in the face to southwest customers.

Glad I traded my Gina for a SW.... Best thing I could have done for my game. I have a 98 Ebony into Alves with no veneers (see avatar). I'm seriously considering starting a collection of them. I LOVE the simple and elegant look and that solid yet direct (best way to describe it) hit and finally a cue with rear balance that you can hit nice and easy.

The availability of woods doesn't matter to me.... It's all about the play.

Nice cue.
My order was in Jan-2006. still have three years waiting.
I wish ebony would be an option then.
how many SW you can order for one spot?
only one?

southwest cues

First of all is southwest has a wait for 11 years because thee are probalbly 1000 people or more on there list. tell me one cuemaker alive that has that list?? that's right none. Second is they don't core so it takes much longer to build a cue. How many cuemakers don't core. Third they don't have any ebony because everyone and there mother was ordering ebony cues. Third is they only use the best grades of wood. If you go to there shop you will see the quality in stock they have. They also take much longer to turn there wood because of where they are Las Vegas where wood can check and warp in a moments notice if not properly acclimated. Southwest in my opinion is worth its weight in gold. They produce a superior product and the guys in the shop are the best.

congrats on having the patience to wait 11 years...no way I could wait 11 years for anything lol
