12- 13 hundred dollars

I am coming in to a small amt of money, most of which
is going for bills & house improvements. I got the
little lady drinking Friday night & asked her if I
could spend 12-13 hundred dollars on a cue &
she said sure honey. Most of my cues have been
in the 3-5 hundred dollar range. I did spend 700
on a Dale Perry before I realized I could get one
considerably cheaper.
Now, if I actually get the money what should I buy?
I'm looking for hit & looks rather than an investment.
I don't want a SUPER stiff hit but other than that.
I've got fairly stiff hitting cues I like;but I also like my 20
year old Meucci. I've got some wood to wood cues
and some wrapless cues I like. IOW I'm open to suggestions.
Definitely want a custom cue. Suggestions.
Also, I'm not near any dealers and haven't been able
to go to Valley Forge.Something new or like new.

Go to Valley Forge. You will never have the opportunity to view so many different cues at the same place at the same time.

I would shop around and get a Scruggs used in that price range. Better overall investment.

Uh...Maybe because it's pink?

It's purple jack-off.

Paul, the only thing that would keep me from buying it is the weight. Way too light for me.

12 to 13 hundred

I'm with Shorty. Get a used Scruggs. I've seen his used Titlist conversions trade in that range.

It is purple. I don't like that wood combo though.........

Hondo-
I would consider Weston, Gilbert, and Zylr. All great cues in that price range, and they probably won't lose value if you decide to sell it. I've also heard that Ken Murrell is good. Scan ebay and various dealer sites.

Awesome job on the wife man. I'll have to remember that one ;)

So many makers out there but my most recent purchase is with Skip Weston based soley on your criteria. You can have a nice, even somewhat fancy, cue for that amount. If you're interested email me at: dkoopman@statestreet.com and I'd be happy to show you what the price is for what I am getting.

Best of luck,

If your looking for a good value, you can't beat the Lucasi I just got for $200 with the spliced shaft, It hits a ton! Then to guarentee you can buy cues in the future, buy your wife something nice with 1/2 of what you got left, then take the other 1/2 on the road!...:)........11 years of marriage will make you think of that kinda stuff!...then again, she lets me buy any cue I want anyway..........have fun....Gerry

Thanks, Gerry, I've got a really nice Lucasi that
I paid $220 for. I'm rapidly becoming one of these
cue collector nuts.

I have to agree with those who have suggested looking for a Scruggs, especially since you don't want a real stiff hitting cue. A Scruggs cue is also one of the best balanced cues you will ever hold in your hands.
It will be the best value, for your money, and it will hold a good resale value.
As others have indicated, look for a used Scuggs, as I don't believe he is making new cues in your price range, any longer.

If you decide you want a stiffer hitting cue, look for a Capone or a Lambros, however, you will still have a little trouble with your price range.

P.S. -- I just thought I would add, Murray Tucker also makes a real nice cue and you may be able to find one in your price range. I understand that he has stopped taking orders, because he is too backed up, but you may get lucky and find a used one. His cues have a very nice hit. Stiffer than a Scruggs, but not quite as stiff as a Lambros or a Capone, JMHO.

You could probably purchase more cue from Bob Frey than Tim Scruggs with just about the same hit for the same moneys. The Scruggs I have hit seemed kinda stiff to me. However I have only played with his steel jointed cues.

If you're still in the closet, I can understand why you'd call it purple.

I think you need to concentrate more on the fact that you had to 'ask permission' to spend your own money.

Does this mean you're openly gay?

Kudos.

lol :D Good one crawdaddio!

Thats because the points are made from purpleheart into bocote...

Now Roll-Off instead of being a jerk-off why don't you try and help the guy find a cue? Oh thats right, its easier being the jerk-off you are.

I just figured I'd point out what I thought was a deal (IMHO) a cue with re-cut points, 2 shafts and a leather wrap for $850. With the extra cash he could even get a nice case. Oh well.

Thats what you get for trying.

P.S. I also understand why some people would not like the looks of a certain cue... Different strokes for different folks.
