13 x 40 on sale

I had this machine and returned it. You get what you pay for. Motor failed within the first 2 weeks. Not a precise machine in any way. Its cheap that is correct. There will be no tech support if you have an issue. You will be dealing with people in another country if there is a problem.

Read the fine print. "average delivery time is 5 weeks, up to 17 weeks". You won't get any support and plan on waiting those same 5 to 17 weeks if you need a part and can actually get the correct one the first time. 90 day warranty sucks as well.....

Being someone who has made all the mistakes possible when buying machines, keep in mind that you plan on keeping this for a long time. Paying more for a decent machine will be negligible in the long run and save you ALOT of frustrations.....

You are right on the money. It will be a hit and miss. You might get lucky and the machine might run just fine or it might need to get returned.
However I do have a couple of friends that have it and never had an issue. Buy it at your own risk I might say

HF lathe

I bought the 37x40 from a friend about eight years ago. It's been fine except for when we dropped it on a flatbed when moving...lol
Great for tapering butts and shafts. Haven't had a lot of problems. I don't think it's quite as bad as everyone thinks.
I'm selling it now to make room for the newer lathes I bought. Has taper attachment we constructed.

I couldn't resist

I read the posts. I looked at the price. I read the posts. I looked at the price. Then I started to wonder could you use the 20% off besides. I clicked the add to cart. Entered the coupon code and it did take off 20%. $1,287.98 but on back order. Checked out policies for return and back order. If I return I can take it to the local HF within 90 days of shipping and get full refund minus $96.94 shipping. They will not take it out of my checking until it is in stock and ready for shipping. So if I change my mind before , I'm out nothing. Looked at posts again. Looked at the handbook and compared it to my Enco #110-2075 almost the same machine but 40" between centers instead of 36". 2 hp instead of 1.5 hp. Same buttons and levers except on the tpi selection. But it does have a screw on chuck according to the manual, instead of a D1-4 mount. I looked at the posts 1 more time to see if any one could talked me out of it. Nothing more posted so I bought it. $1,287.98 plus $96.94 and $76.17 WI sales tax, total $1461.09.
I realize I will have to wait awhile to get it but that is a good thing seeing I need to make room in my garage.

It's not to late to talk me into cancelling my order, so let me have it! Thank you for the posts so far. Looking forward to more.

Now the price is back up to $3500.

LOL at that price.
For $500 more or so, you can get a 12 by 36 Taiwan made lathe.
These China-made lathes are infamous for soft metal and bad electrical wiring/circuitry.
I once owned a brand new China made lathe. Nothing but headaches.
I had to fight the dealer to take it back. It cost dollars and a ton of hours.
Hell, they should have paid me for discovering all their machine's problems.

Tap...Tap....Tap... How will you feel when you get the lathe going and have a problem? There will be no help, your on "Giligan's Island". So, you can just return it right? You can, but your money will be tied up for at least a month and you either have to take it back to the store or ship it back. Its too damn heavy to lug around. Mine didn't come with the stand, had to order that separately. It got "lost" when I shipped it back in the same crate as the lathe??? Just trying to save some others alot of hassle that I went thru.

I'll say this for Jet lathes. When I bought my first, it was a Wilton that Jet sold YEARS earlier. I had a couple of issues and was able to talk to someone who actually knew something about it.

They even had a manual for the thing. A very good rule of thumb with HF is avoid, with very few exceptions, anything that has a plug...

Jim, You seem bound and determined to buy this "machine" because it is
such a good deal.

Please don't.

One of my oldest friends sold cars for decades. His favorite piece of
wisdom was, "There is no such thing as a good deal on a bad car".

"Looked at posts again. Looked at the handbook and compared it to my
Enco #110-2075 almost the same machine but 40" between centers instead of 36".
2 hp instead of 1.5 hp. Same buttons and levers"

To continue the car oriented allegory(I'm on a roll)

Did you ever look at a Yugo? Just like a BMW - it had 4 wheels and rubber
tires, in the same location, steering wheel, an ignition,...

You get the idea.

Mine was a funnier joke if you're not part of it.

They still sell it .

First thing I noticed was my threads looked funny. Funny b/c they didn't match the chart. I call them, hey my threads are funny. Dude asks me if I know what I'm doing. Sure, it's rocket science but my old Logan threaded all day. Turns out they had the wrong gear combination. Sure send me the right plates." It will come from China in a few weeks. " " What? " " Err no, pull one from your new machines and send me one."
Then the motor went out. Pffft! Smoke from the back. I called them again.
They send someone to replace the motor. We find out, there are two belts to the motor and one was a lot older and looser. Great. I tell them that.
They said, they'll send another belt later.
Second motor gets smoked after a few days .
I found out from the repair guy these machines have poor circuit boards .
The manufacturer rep plays me a song and start claiming wood dust might not be good for their motors. I told him he's full of kaka b/c I have American motors on table saw and another lathe that laugh at dust.

From what I've found out, there are several lathe makers in China now . They're just out-cheaping each other.
The people who used to make Jet, Birmingham and Enco have been out-cheaped by other makers.

I go to HB to buy disposables.
