Do straight pool players prefer to use a softer tip then what they use to play nine ball with?

for the longest time i used a LePro Medium. then switched to the Morri Medium but i was playing strictly 9 Ball.

over the course of the last year or so i have been strictly 14.1 and have switched back to the LePro medium and i find it to be better for 14.1

It feels to me that i have better control with it, almost like it has more bite on the cue ball on contact. I Really feel the shots better. Or maybe its just me with the Placebo Effect.

I Hope this makes sense and helps.

Steve

I dont think the newer Morri's are what they used to be. IMHO

Great question

This is a great question. I would think what ever tip that you like the best and feels good to you is the best tip to play what ever game in pool that one likes. I would not have one shaft with a certain tip for 9-ball and another shaft with a different tip for straight pool.

I recently changed to Triangle tips on my cues from LePro and I think I may have been a victim of the placebo effect regarding the Triangles.

Initially I was getting a bit more action from the CB but after a few weeks now I am noticing more CB deflection and when I'm in the patch just touching the CB it seems to have less feel.

While playing one pocket and having to spin the CB fast while moving it slowly, I notice they miscue a bit. I'm going back to LePro myself.

I have recently changed to a Redline tip by Tiger (the new Everest tip, I'm told). I've been a long time Moori fan, but this Tiger tip gives me superior cue ball control in ALL Games.

Hey guys :)

I would imagine that different shooters will have different preferences as reguards cue tips :)

I'd prefer to shoot with a med-soft cue tip, because I find that this gives enough grip on the snowball to use that little extra English at softer speeds to allow for better CB control, but different players will have their own preferences :)

IMHO, Triangles start out great but during the first few weeks of play the compress and get much harder. Too hard for my taste.
You may want to try a Moori Slow. They work for me.

I'll pass along what I heard and learned in the last few.........

I had some of the old Moori's, MH, and I loved them when I was playing a few years ago.

I bought a SP to get up to speed, and it came with a LePro, whatever. I had my guy put on one my older Moori's. I just tried to love that sucker, but I couldn't get used to it. I think the joint ( 5/16 X 14 piloted) had a lot to do with it, as I was used to a radial pin. (Too soft or funny or something).

Anyway, I tried next a Tiger layered, not the Sniper, but a softer one. Better. Then I heard from Lou F that he likes the new Kamui SS black tips. As he says, it's not really "super soft."

This one is the tits. Anyone that says a tip doesn't mean anything hasn't had enough beer:grin:

Oh, and the other poster is right on. The new Moori's ain't the same...........YMMV.

I use the same cue and tip in all my games. I know how it plays, why change? Consistency is key, not equipment.
